Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised to $262 million
The last increase was 37 million, so assuming another increase of at least 37 million the advertised jackpot would be at least 299 million, and that's enough for a record pre-tax payout. The cash value is about 58.7% of the advertised annuity, so a single winner could take a cash payout of about 175.5 million. That would be about 5 million more than Jack Whittaker's prize from 2002 and 11 million more than the payout in the recently over-hyped powerball record .In all probability a rollover w

If there was no cap.....
I'd bet there aren't many players who pay attention to whether it's a record jackpot, or isn't.I'd also bet a, say, $50M winner isn't doing a lot of moaning because it wasn't a record jackpot. And finally, I'd bet if it went several draws past the last jackpot and endured the cap, whomever wins it won't ever miss whatever was lost because of the cap.... probably won't even think about it. Record is a media hype word. And Cap is a word that has no meaning when the dollar amount reach, say, 1

Nebraska cashes in on record lottery sales
Nebraska also was a big winner this week in the Powerball lottery.Over the 10 weeks it took to amass the record $340 million jackpot, Nebraska profited about $2.1 million for education, environmental and State Fair trust funds. A big run like that is always good for the bottom line, said Brian Rockey, spokesman for the Nebraska Lottery. An Oregon couple won the Wednesday drawing. The winning numbers: 7, 21, 43, 44, 49 and 29.Since the game started on Aug. 10, $9.7 million in $1 tickets were sold

Powerball lottery madness spreads to big media
You seem to be forwarding the notion that somehow the annuity jackpot is not the real jackpot .In that case, let me be the first to let you know that the annuity jackpot is in fact a real jackpot amount, and you would in fact get that prize if you chose annuity (minus taxes, of course).Just because there are many (if not most) people who would choose the cash value in order to get a huge outpouring of cash all at once, there are some who would opt for the annuity, and for those people, they w

Powerball at $340,000,000!!
There is a rule that if Powerball reaches a new record, for every drawing, the jackpot cannot increase by more than $25 million per drawing. The previous record was $315 million, so for next drawing, the annuity jackpot cannot be higher than $340 million - if it is not hit Wednesday, Saturday's jackpot cannot be higher than $365 million, and so forth. The extra money that goes to the jackpot rolls down to the match 5+0 winners, and that accumulates until the record jackpot is won, on which d

Powerball Jackpot Grows to $180 Million
Everyone seems so focused on hitting a new record, like rooting for a sports team. I sort of understand it, but I really don't feel that same burning need to set a record. I guess I just don't tie myself emotionally to having the state lottery jackpot reach new record levels. If it happens, it happens. If not, I'm happy with big jackpots as they are.For me, I just like the jackpot to get over $100 million, and then I'll play again and again. On average, I'll probably play once per week when

Michigan lottery profits at record levels, thanks to Club Keno
Club Keno is a winner, at least for the Michigan state treasury. The 2-year-old lottery game has bumped Michigan Lottery revenues over $2 billion mark for the first time in its 33 years. Last year, the lottery took in $1.97 billion.Club Keno will gross about $330 million in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, says Lottery commissioner Gary Peters. That is 16 percent of total lottery sales.Net lottery profits for the fiscal year will top last year's record $645 million dollars, Peters told the Detroi

Record lottery winner's business target of complaints
More than 1,500 complaints have been filed in a Wood County sewer project being completed by a company owned by record Powerball winner Jack Whittaker, about one complaint for every customer the Union Williams Public Service District project would serve.Diversified Enterprise and its subcontractor, Zion Inc., allegedly have sliced water, sewer, gas and power lines, cut down trees and knocked down fences, according to complaints filed with the PSD, located in Waverly. The sewer project started in

All multi-state lotto games
I don't see how anyone could vote for either MUSL game although the blue game will never happen. Since Powerball is keeping the idiotic cap rule of 25 million over the record and the current highest Powerball jackpot was 314.9 that leaves the next highest jackpot Powerball can hit at 339.9 million. Rather unlikely judging from recent Powerball runs.Since the same clowns that came up with that rule would be running the blue game one could look forward to other jackpot limiting rules. That leaves

Arriving at the lottery headquarters
I WILL arrive at Texas Lottery headquarters in Austin in a rental car (only because I will be flying to Austin). I'll be alone except for my attorney. My family will be back home awaiting my return. I'm still considering the press conference thing - it will probably depend on how much I win. If the amount is not record-breaking, I'll be able to get away without having a press conference. But if I break Jack's record (and I do plan on breaking Jack's record), I'll have to just get it over with. O
