CASH Only,
I have always respected your OPINION in regards to a game's method of payout. All I have ever asked in return was the same respect for the opinions I hold as you want for your own. I have not made irresponsible and non-relevant comments within your posts because I do respect your opinion. I have even offered up possible scenarios that pose a realistic problem to support your position. But again, it was merely my personal opinion, not fact.
I understand you don t like annuit

Wisconsin factory workers win $208M Powerball lottery
I see what both of you are saying, but I agree with Coin Toss. Many states won't even bother paying more than one claimant. That's why in most cases it's best to create a trust and appoint a trustee.
As far as choosing annuity vs lump sum, I know it can be mathematically calculated, but I'm almost willing to be the states won't do it.
Powerball has had groups of winners where some pick annuity and others pick cash.
Can you please post an example of this? I know that when there are

Wisconsin wins jackpot pb
More update on the $208 million PB jp winners here according to the local news.
Looks like it was just an office pool and anyone could chip in a buck. About 100 of the workers did. Those that decide to choose the annuity will get a after-tax check yearly of about $69,000 each for 30 years.. Those that choose the lump sum will get an after-tax check of about $554,000 once.
No wonder none of them said they will quit their jobs ! LOL ! $554,000 isn't enough to really retire on unless yo

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
Powerball has rolled. The cash jackpot is $50.2M. The advertised annuity jackpot is $114M. Although the advertised annuity for PB is higher, the actual cash value of MM is now higher than PB. PB is still at better bet, though, since the odds of winning the PB are higher. (MM is a better bet when its cash value is 20% larger than PB.)
Since the matrix change, 10th draws in a series have sold 19.7M tickets on average. If this is how many tickets are sold, the probability of various num

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The powerball jackpot has rolled. The cash value is 55.3M and the annuity value is at $117M. (The advertised annuity jackpot at MM would be about $94M for a cash value of this size.)
The most recent powerball jackpot at this level sold about $24M in tickets. If powerball sells $24M tickets for this jackpot the distribution of winners will be as follows:
084.85%
113.94%
21.14%
30.06%
I'd estimate an 8% of a 19th draw and a 3% chance of a 20th draw.

PA cash 5 going up...
Yes it is good enough to pay for a house, (in my case) but personally I would rather have a lifetime of checks. At least you know you will always be getting them, and can't spend them all in one shot. I don't have a problem with winning $250,000, but cash_only is trying to make another invalid comparison simply to further express his discourse for something that has been beaten to death long ago, and is nothing more than age-old, tiring rhetoric.
I am assuming though that he is over 50 or 60

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Note my error about the new annuity value in the post on current rollover probability. The post should have read:
The MM jackpot has rolled. The cash value is now $24.5M; the annuity value is now $42M. The average sales on the fourth drawing in a run is $17.2M. If this is the quantity actually sold, the randomized probability of a rollover/numbers of winners is as follows:
090.68%
18.88%
20.43%
30.01%
The error was transcriptional and the calculation is not affec

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The Powerball jackpot has rolled. The cash jackpot is now 29.9 and the annuity is $62M.
The average sales for 6th draws since the matrix change is $13.9M, but sales have been running above average. Still if 13.9M tickets were sold, the probability of various numbers of winners is given in the following table:
090.93%
18.65%
20.41%
30.01%
I estimate the probability of reaching a 19th draw at about 5% and the probability of reaching a 20th draw at close to 2%. There i

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
The Powerball jackpot has rolled. The cash jackpot is now 18.6 and the annuity is $38M.
The average sales for 4th draws since the matrix change is $13.0M, which is interestingly, lower than the average for 1st draws, for second draws and third draws. (This is probably because there aren't that many data points.) If this situation prevails, and the sales for this draw are in fact around $13.0M, the probable number of winners is given in the table below:
091.49%
18.14%
20

pts vs physical playing
please guys, i understand completly what you are saying and sorry if i may sound defensive or even worst.....but i think that i can find MANY MANY ways to cash a winning lottery ticket (if the situation arises) or sell it to the highest bidder. being in possession of a US winning ticket while not living there is not a crime.....(my gf was on vacation there, bought it and brought it back for me)...if pbs can cash the ticket for me, so therefore i can find many institution that would be "willing"
