taxessss and the lottery
Quote: Originally posted by RJOh on September 28, 2004 It would be nice to be able to deduct all your loses from your winnings before considering them as additional taxable income . Over two years ago I matched 5 of 6 in the Ohio Lottery which paid $1500. Since I could only deduct a loss up to the amount I won and not my actual lost, the fact that I spent $2500 for lottery tickets and won $1500 actually increased my taxes for that year. I ended up having to pay $300 more taxes to cover the $15

Tennesse Members? Just curious
I really dont think computer picked games.....especially in the Pick 3....make that much difference. Reason why....simply because the 1000 exacts dont change. They are the same and the makeup of the 1000 doesnt change because picks are computerized.I've always felt the numbers are in charge simply by the sheer makeup of EXACT combinations and what is more/less likely to play because of that. The only way computerized picks would change something would be if there was human input to control

Scratch tickets are boon for Ohio Lottery
Crystal Knox is partial to Fast Cash Bingo and Nifty Fifty, but she also likes Doubling Dollars and Wheel of Fortune. The certified nurse assistant estimates she spends up to $20 a day on scratch-off lottery tickets, usually breaking even or better. To me, it's easier, Knox, 37, a certified nurse's assistant, said of her preference for instant tickets over games like Super Lotto. The odds are better. Citing high growth in sales of instant games, the Ohio Lottery said Wednesday it earned $10 mi

New Jeresey couple wins huge Powerball lottery jackpot
Quote: Originally posted by qutgnt on May 19, 2004Quick pick strikes again, proves the lottery is dumb luck. If your system works then it was dumb luck, just like a quick pick. The lottery is an indepedent dvent with a horrible house take that can never be beat in long run unless you hit a monster jackpot! The quick pick only struck again because 70% of winning tickets are quick picks in which case you can safely assume that 70% of tickets sold are quick picks. Isn't it then more likely that th

Virginia lottery winner badly in debt
I doubt I would quit working for anything less than $4,200,000 AFTER taxes... I may work closer to home or take a lower paying job doing what I like, but I would work for the health insurance, AND the max contribution (company matched) to the 401k...The MINIMUM amount for not working...1. Pay off ALL debts and replace aging vehicles with RELIABLE transportation and get the kids hooked up for any college they want (no Ferraris in the mix)... $ varies by personal situation... for Me, about $310,00

Winners and their methods
Numbers from systems are posted here frequently and you can compare them with actual drawings. I would predict that if you reviewed these systematic numbers and compared them with actual odds, they actually do somewhat worse than truly random draws.I haven't actually done this experiment myself, not having the time, but I have reason to believe that this must be true. Some of us here have discussed the probabilities for particular numbers of winners. Until the jackpot becomes very large and g
