The Mega Millions jackpot increased by the minimum $10 million to $140 million. It is estimated the current jackpot is under funded from sales by about $0.3 million. This will be the last minimum $10 million jackpot increase. Going forward, the jackpot will be fully funded by sales. Nonetheless, there is no possibility for the Mega Millions jackpot to catch up to the Powerball jackpot. The Powerball jackpot is clearly winning this race.

We are also skipping Mega Millions this week. Waiting for the jackpot to get a lot bigger. At least bigger than Powerball. My reasons are very different than MM's reasons, but I'm hoping that we'll see a ridiculously large jackpot in 3 months or so. This is correct. Lottery sales actually increase in poor economic conditions. It is a leading indicator of recession. People play when they get desperate mainly scratch tickets and a study in WA showed people spend more proportionately from unemployment checks vs paychecks adjusted for amount.
