Hot Lotto higher than Powerball
Well I'll be darned. Mega Millions got won in Ohio Friday night, so now the Hot Lotto jackpot IS the highest jackpot in the US, maybe for the only day ever!!
As for Mega Millions, Friday's jackpot was the fifteenth jackpot awarded this year, which sets a record for most jackpots awarded in a year for that game. This also beats Powerball's record of fourteen jackpots awarded in a year, which was set just last year (PB has awarded ten jackpots so far this year).

Will we see a $260,000,000 - $300,000,000 Jackpot this year?
Here we are 2 1/2 months until the end of 2006. I think we will get some nice jackpots but maybe not the record jackpots. You have to get combinations that will continue to stump its players draw after draw. Players have been very lucky over the last two years in both Multi-state games. I think I will side with the players and say that the jackpots are not going to be heading in the record direction. But as always the lottery could go either way.-weshar75

Will we see a $260,000,000 - $300,000,000 Jackpot this year?
My guess is that it is more probable than having 3 powerball jackpots won in a row (as happened recently). However it is very unlikely that it will happen. If one of the two jackpots were more advanced, it would be far more likely.
I would love it if the two jackpots stopped following one another and that their cycles were out of phase.

mm won
That is the twelth (12th) Mega Millions jackpot awarded this year. Two more and they tie Powerball's record for number of jackpots awarded in a calendar year. Powerball set a record of fourteen (14) jackpots awarded just last year. In contrast, this year, Powerball has awarded only six (6) jackpots. However, Powerball went through the exact same thing Mega Millions just went through now almost three years ago. On October 29, 2003, an opening Powerball jackpot was won; then, it rolled one ti

Mega Millions lottery jackpot won ... again
The people that won those small jackpots are probably regular players that understand if you don't pay to play you don't win. 20-50 million jackpots if taken lump-sum translate after taxes into roughly 13 million and 33 million respectively. You can try to shelter your names from scrutiny but you can't hide from the tax-man, he will get his cut. Nevertheless, these small jackpots are a beautiful addition to anybodys bank accounts or investments that could generate copious amounts of incom

what isyour strategy?
but if the winning combinations could be predicted easily there would fewer big jackpots and fewer lottery millionaires. Not to those smart enough who could exploit the system, and hold out. Why not just let the jackpots build up to a certain point, then clean up? Depending on how many knew about the winning system, this could be very dangerous, and the rich would indeed only get richer...MUCH richer. They could win a jackpot at will, and once a week or month if they chose to.$15 million a week

Texas Lottery to change Lotto game back to 6/54 format
Interesting. Yet another state that is now decreasing the Pick-6 matrix.Until recently, state lotteries have been continually increasing the Pick-6 matrices, apparently hoping that lottery players wouldn't notice that their chances of winning were being drastically reduced with each subsequent increase. But as the lottery players in Texas have shown, eventually it gets to a point where people say, enough is enough, and just stop buying tickets.Sure, the jackpots won't be quite as large now, b

Charlotte wants limits on N.C. lottery sales
North Carolina leaders aren't ignorant, just misguided. Some years ago Ohio had some misguided people that convinced the State that the chance to to win large lottery jackpots was a bad thing and the State for a few months adopted a law that limited the amount that one lottery ticket could win to $20M annuity. At the time people from the surrounding states played the Ohio lottery and jackpots of $40M-$70M were common. After that, the jackpot amounts were lucky to reach $15M and the law was elim

Texas Lottery Director Resigns Over Jackpot Scandal
The executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission resigned Friday, two weeks after admitting he had approved advertising Lotto Texas jackpots that were higher than ticket sales could support.Reagan Greer had overseen the nation's third-largest lottery since February 2003. In recent days, it has become clear that intense, ongoing efforts to restore Texans' confidence in the lottery can best be advanced through a change of leadership, Greer wrote in letter of resignation.Greer said he had si
