Massachusetts woman wins her second $1M lottery prize
I guess lightning does strike twice! But it's not the first time. There was a gentleman in Florida who won the lottery twice the first time was for 7 million and the second time was for 3 million in a 6 month period. He took a lump sum for the first win and a annuity for the 2nd win for 30 years. Then there was the lady in New Jersey who also won twice but ending up gambling it all away in Atlantic City casinos. Just hoping that it strikes for me once! I got my shades on waiting for the sun to s

Massachusetts man wins $1M lottery for second time in 18 months
Maybe Rolf Rhodes discovered the perils of the cash lump sum and chose the annuity. For the next 19 years, he will celebrate once a year when receiving his check in the mail.

'You assume all the money noise stops when you finally have it'
...which is why any jackpot winner should Temet Nosce. If you know you lousy with cash, maxing out your credit cards without much thought, always behind on payments- then you ought to decide before you collect your first cheque whether you want a lump sum payment, or go the annuity route, the latter would suit you if you find it difficult to control your present spending. That's just my opinion and it's open to debate.

South Carolina man wins $10 million lottery prize during lunch break
I think the bottom line is some people cannot resist playing arm-chair financial adviser. Unless you know his financial situation and what his goals and priorities are, you can't know whether the annuity or cash option is better. Worry about yourself. It could be jackpot envy or probably similar to arm chair coaches; even though they have no experience running a professional sports team, they have tons of ideas how they should be run.

Do You Know Anyone Who's Ever Won the Jackpot?
@NobodySpecial - something similar happened again in 2012 in the Fantasy 5. The number drawn were 1-3-5-7-9 and there were 98 winners. Each walked away with $1,995. With regard to the topic question, the only person I have personally known to hit a jackpot prize was a former classmate in graduate school. He won the $500 a week for life prize on a $1 scratch-off ticket. Since he was only 32 years old, he wisely chose to take the life annuity.

$750 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges to 4th-largest ever
Back in the day all jackpots were annuities so a $25 million jackpot was $25 million regardless how long it took to get all the money. Even after lotteries started offering cash values as a choice, jackpots were still advertised as the annuity value and the rule of thumb was the prize after taxes was close to 1/3 of that value. Nothing has changed except for maybe the perception of some players. The Ohio Lottery play slips had cash or payments boxes on their play slips and I believe there are
