Michigan woman dreamed of $4M lottery win — then it happened
Thirty dollars and a dream! $4,000,000.00 or half of that after all taxes are paid. Smart choice to not take the Annuity. As mikeintexas wrote, When the Democrats regain the power to tax, the rates will increase in the future. Will we see 90% rates?
Congratulations to this dreamer and following her dream.

Winner of $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot has come forward
Coin toss it's called socialism. It does not help both parties [ pretty much all of Congress] spends money like drunken sailors.
But real reason not to take annuity is just pure money you would earn from it. If your goal to get as much money as possible and do it safe..... I could do it with my eyes closed for 30 years.
Take all that money into just 2 companies.
The most profitable beverage company in the world:Coca-Cola
And the most profitable food company in the wor

Can one spouse take lump while the other takes an annuity?
You don't pay taxes on the original investment, but pay on any capital gains (profits). A lottery annuity is different because taxes were never paid on the winnings so taxes are paid on the total amount of each installment. Pensions, IRAs, 401Ks, etc. are forms of annuities where taxes are deferred.
IMO, the only real advantage of annuities is they are low risk, but usually with low risk comes low returns.

Lotto America 2019
Nobody won the Lotto America Jackpot for 1-5-19 so the next estimated jackpot for Wednesday 1-9-19 is $13.35 Million Annuity/$8.18 Million Cash!
The winning numbers for 1-5-19 were: 1-19-29-32-50 9! If anyone guess that someone won the jackpot on the 2nd draw of this year then they're wrong everyone especially to both of you CDanaT and DELotteryPlyr!

Why doesn't Mega Millions show decimals in their CASH VALUE?
I don't give a hill of beans if the decimal is added to the cash value. Whole million dollar figure is fine with me.
However adding cash value to Lottery Post for annuity prize jackpots would be nice.

Why doesn't Mega Millions show decimals in their CASH VALUE?
Lottery Post does not publish cash values for jackpots. USA Mega does publish the cash values for both Mega Millions and Powerball.
For the advertised annuity jackpot amounts, both Lottery Post and USA Mega publish the same exact number. What do you mean three different values ?

You just won a huge lottery jackpot! Now what?
I don't know about other states, but in Texas you have to choose Cash or Annuity when you buy the ticket.
I don't think you can change your mind if you win the jackpot.

Powerball joins lottery frenzy with $620 million jackpot
Yes, it is fascinating, and I don't really care if The Meatman did the math correctly or not......
Just gimme the cashola and I'd be happy.
As for me I never pay a ounce of attention to the advertised MM/PB jackpot amounts. That's because of the following;
1. Maybe nobody will win the JP,
2. Maybe multiple people will win the JP,
3. The IRS is going to get their cut (you aint gettin' anywhere close to the advertised JP amount)
4. It's the annuity amount.... Forget the annuity.
