How many lines to play in a lottery game ?
I've never had much luck with birthdays, but an anniversary got me $400 on Powerball once. I've tried playing my social security number and didn't have much luck with that either.
Sometimes I'll play a few numbers selected using a specific method then throw in something random. On a line I might play 3 numbers I pick myself then 2 randoms or such. No jackpots, but have won a few lower prizes this way.

One lottery ticket sold in Texas wins $800 million Mega Millions jackpot
It amazes me we live in a world where the top ten jackpots of all-time is a billion or more. Now I hear their rumors coming in 2025 the Mega Millions will be changing the structure and introducing a new game where a one auto pick ticket will be $5 a draw. I remember when one auto pick was a $1. What in the world is going on here I'm sure Powerball will do the same if Mega Millions show success and no drop in sales. How much greedy can they be. We got to quit supporting this madness y'all. This n

Florida Fantasy-5 Players
Thank you for all of that math! I don't play PB or MM very often. The odds just boggle my mind, but I've been wondering lately what makes the most sense. Am I kind of wasting money chasing small jackpots? A F5 win would help my immediate life, but it's not life changing. Isn't that what most people are after? So, my first step will go back to playing JTP when it's at least a million. I'm thinking of dropping F5 and JTP at some point and just sticking with the bigger games. 2025.....

will you play the new $5 mega millions?
A 46 line 2 if 5 of 56 number abbreviated wheel Useful for Mega Millions is still at the bottom of the Pick 5 lottery wheels page and show how MM has evolved through the years. I'd agree raising the ticket price to $5 is a big jump but nothing compared to the $20, $30, and $50 a ticket scratchers.
It's simply supply and demand; they will offer game as long a players are buying tickets. I still play both games but mostly when the jackpots support ticket sales a more than 50%. Probably won't

UPDATE: Proposed changes to Mega Millions game will raise ticket price to $5
Bottom line...they know they will lose a percentage of players but also know some of those won't be able to stay away when jackpots skyrocket, and they know that there are hardcore players who will keep playing every draw regardless of the cost of a ticket.
MUSL might take a hit in players cutting back and/or quitting, but will make up for it as time goes on.

$1.08 billion Powerball lottery winner Yanira Alvarez filed claim for jackpot over five months ago
I thought a lottery ticket is a bearer's instrument (it is written so on the back of many tickets). Some basic vetting is appropriate (i.e., where when did you buy this ticket?), but police interviews, checking the store's video feed, waiting months to award you the money, etc.) is way over-the-top. It seems like nowadays they (the state lotteries) can potentially come up with any reason for refusing to give you the money you won, and I think that's way too much power for them when in fact WE (l

Lottery Hanky Panky
Anytime computers and networking is involved, there's always room for hanky panky. As an IT admin, with enterprise rights, anything can be done and all these lotteries are networked. The speed at which things are calculated should have no room for error, unless it's 'human error' which means manipulation/tampering. Code it, program it, run it, check for errors, if all is proper, leave it alone. But when jackpots get this big, and supposedly the lottery proceeds are meant for education(either a l

Accidental lottery ticket purchase nets Maryland couple $2 million in Powerball
Our self serve machines do not have replay feature either if that's what you're talking about. Our clerks can replay your tickets for you.
Naturally I wrote IGT (physical letter, no e-mail) suggestion that the machines be equipped with a replay feature...naturally this shareholder never got a reply. However years before that I wrote them in Las Vegas and said I had won several jackpots on their WOF slot machines. They sent me a very nice WOF with IGT on the back.

$935 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears billion-dollar milestone
I feel this pot going to climb into the top 3
Maybe, but it needs to almost double, to about 1.815 billion to be in the real top 3, based on the current cash:annuity ratio.
It will reach a billion by Saturday for sure.
That would require actual sales to be almost twice as much as the original forecast. Call me crazy, but I think that seems just a tiny bit unlikely.
Considering the odds are even higher for mega millions than they are for Powerball ...
The very high odds for

Suspicious? last 4 jackpots were hit after billion dollar mark
No!
Because it is not true. Only 2 of the last 4 jackpots were over $1 billion.
