$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
What about the interest that $151 mil will be earning? If you invest wisely, the money will grow just as if you took the annuity payments. The money isn't just going to sit in your basement and do nothing for all those years to come!

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
The annuity jackpot at drawing time was raised to $335,500,000. Using the same percentage of 237/333 I figure that the cash amount should be about $238,779,279

Two Part Question.
A) I agree. I like people who consistently post useful info like BA Lakerben for example. B) Any1 who rambles on about Annuity or lump sum? or word to that affect day in day out are my least favorite here + that annoying milk boy.

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
His financial adviser offered him a long term plan that would pay him over $80k per month WITHOUT touching the principal yet he turned it down. An annuity would have done David Lee Edwards no good as he would have simply cashed it out for a fraction of what it was worth. When drugs dictate your mind there is no common sense.

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
everyone likes todd. he has created a top notch site here. it is difficult to keep coming up with fresh material to convey lottery stories and news each day. listing lifetime lottery amount standings seems to be popular with most even if it's overdone. maybe it's to drive sales since people want to get in on the biggest jackpots only. he keeps track of that for them. fine. what interest rates are, annuity payments, and tax bites are only minimally important if you win one of these. continuing to

Anyone else notice this about Mega Millions
It could be because of the lower interest rates. More cash needed to generate the annuity. As long as the check clears after it hits my bank....that's all I care about.

$348 MILLION: April misses bring May riches
I agree on taking the annuity, but don't forget that the initial with-holding won't cover all your taxes. There's the remaining almost 15% you'll probably still owe. After full federal and state taxes, I'd be looking at 2.9 mil the first year. And spending a good chunk of that on a really nice house. The vacation condo in Hawaii might have to wait until year 2.

$348 MILLION: April misses bring May riches
I understand the argument for the lump sum but I'd choose ANNUITY all the way! $3,928,425 + per year (first payment) after taxes in Washington state. That's enough for living large while getting the financial education, saving you the stress and worry of being taken to the cleaners by some smart Alec lawyer or investor, if the lump sum is chosen. A price has to be paid for security. The heirs can claim whatever is left to claim after I die. 4 million dallas is more than enough to live a good lif

$314 million jackpot puts Powerball back in spotlight
No winners tonight so its now #12 at 226. By Wed drawing it may bump a notch or two. Going into tonights drawing the annuity was 314 mill. On the top 25 list 314.8 was #25 so that knocks the 314.8 of the top 25 list. This was the JP that Jack Whitaker won several years ago. His cash value had already dropped out of the top 25. Just thought i would bring this up as we all know what happened with Jack
