POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
I would do that also lol. You have one billion dollars. In a choppy computer voice. Nice I will be watching those shows again! I would put it all in my bank so I cold watch it easier or get a CDAR to be insured up to $50 million. But I am not worried about my bank as they have been around a long time and have a high rating and about a billion net worth already. I would just double it. But if I took the annuity I would a check coming every year and would be set after the first year anyway. So wit

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
It is not false advertising if you know how it works and ready the fine print. Many don't though. That amount is if you take the annuity. But if people do not look into it more carefully it is their own fault. Nonetheless I highly doubt they would be complaining after the taxes are taken out. If they do they are REALLY greedy and have issues. They would still have more money than anyone has ever won and a lot more money than most. You should know the rules before you play.

Why Would Anyone In Their Right Mind Choose Annuity instead of Cash Payout for Powerball?
Some have made a pretty good argument for the annuity.
what happens if you move to another State? Do you get taxed from the State you originally won it in? Do you get taxed only in your new State (if they tax income)? Or do you get hit with a possible double whammy from both States?

Mark Cuban's Advice to Winner
I agreed with most. FDIC only, ONLY insures up to $250,000.. So, keeping it in the bank isn't feasible. I don't know about money market accounts. Taking the annuity can be good and bad. It all depends on your spending habits. There's really not much I want to buy. I mean, less than $100,000. I mean, besides a house. I just bought a brand new car and can pay that off whenever. I'm thinking about traveling and having the time to do things I've always wanted to do.

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
Why wouldn't you just take the lump sum and then put the money somewhere where you'll be getting your own annuity every year on top of the lump sum?
Let's say you put 400 million of the 572m away and only live on the returns from that(plus the additional 172m in cash). How much would you be getting a year from returns?

With the just-announced increase, Ohio's first-year annuity payment is $14,961,126. Ends at year 30 at $61,582,026.
Not all that concerned with future tax rates.

You can find an annuity schedule (for the last drawing, but it's easy enough to adjust in a spreadsheet), along with some other interesting info on the TX lottery website. It agrees with the 5% annual increase, with the related math checking out.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. But between you and me, I like my home state's page better because (grin) my state has no state income tax - https://www.usamega.com/powerball-jackpot-annuity.asp?state=WA
However, in both cases, they used current tax rates. What future tax rates may be, Federal or state, is a bugger. I really pity people who live in areas with county, city, and metropolitan service district income taxes. I used to live in one of those areas (Multnomah County, Oregon) until the
