SC lottery brings in almost $1 billion
Large Powerball jackpots helped fuel lottery ticket sales of nearly $1 billion in South Carolina for the fiscal year that ended June 30.After payouts of $552 million in prizes, the state was left with about $270 million. According to unaudited revenue statements, the state has $17 million more than expected to help pay for college scholarships. The report will be final by October 1st. The Legislature decides how the excess revenue is spent. In the previous fiscal year, the lottery sold $724 millio

Mega Millions vs. Powerball?
Quote: Originally posted by Todd on July 19, 2004ryanm,Actually, Mega Millions sales are better than Powerball at this point, as the larger player base is starting to make a difference. During this current jackpot run for both games, Mega Millions achieved a $29 million jackpot after 3 rollovers, while Powerball only managed $27 million after the same number of rollovers. When the jackpots get over $100 million Mega Millions vastly outrolls Powerball. Powerball needs to add additional states,

Changes to Canada Lotto 6/49 now in effect
Lottery corporations want to make more money. To make more money, they need to increase sales. They see the same trend that we all see - large jackpots generate high sales. It is even evident in this forum. When the US jackpots are large, people go out of their way to buy tickets either online or by driving to other states.Canadian lotteries had two choices to get larger jackpots (and higher sales). Increase the odds or increase the price. In the US, the trend has been to increase the odds. For

MM sets a new record
Quote: Originally posted by Jake649 on May 25, 2004The Mega Millions jackpot is not growing as fast as before and is well behind record levels. This is partly due to the fact that the two Mega Millions states with the largest population also have the largest US state lottery jackpots. The Lotto Texas jackpot is at $65 million and the New York Lotto jackpot is at $58 million. When these jackpots are won and if the Mega Millions jackpot has not been won, then the Mega Millions jackpot will start gr

Canada to change Lotto 6/49
Canada's Lotto 6/49 is going for gold with bigger jackpots and better chances of winning. Starting May 30, the first major changes in the game's 22-year history will take effect. We're hoping these changes will provide added excitement, said Kathleen Polyak, spokeswoman for the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. The game will still be based on the popular 6/49 format, but it will offer bigger jackpots more often, a new $5 prize category and better overall odds of winning a prize. But to enable b

Super 7
How many bonus jackpots will they have? They have added about 50 million to these two jackpots. No taxes and a fair game, who the hell wouldnt play it. God forbid US states would ever help the player like that. US states just change the games to make them seem better with bigger jackpots, but little do most people realize that the odds are worse. For once I wouldlike to see a state add payback percentage. Its marginal cause that would increase sales to bring ever more revenue. Why anyone b

Jackpots
Has anyone here won multiple jackpots (pick 5, pick 6) or know of some one that has? Also, I have read several posts that people win $1000 -$1200 a month with pick 3 and pick 4. How much do you spend a day/week to win that much?Just curious, I'm just starting out and looking for a good system. So far so good. My husband has been playing quickpicks for years and only wins maybe $20.00 a year. I started giving him numbers to play and BOOM he is winning 3 of 5 and 3 of 6 on a regular basis.Thank

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
The Big Game had much better odds than the MegaMillions, 80 million to 1 vs 130 million to one.Maybe you don't believe me, but I assure you that the MegaMillions will break 300 million several times more, unless it is changed. Indeed, it will probably break 400 million, possibly more. This was, in fact the reason for changing from Big Game to MegaMillions, to get eye-popping jackpots. As lotteries grow bigger and bigger, the size of the jackpot required for Lotto fever rises. Curti

The battle of the big jackpots
It is interesting to speculate which of the two big jackpots will be won first, Powerball or Mega Millions.Whichever one goes first, the other one will get an added boost to the jackpot level because a lot of money will cross state lines. Millions of dollars are won on low tier prizes, much of which is used to buy more tickets on the next draw. I speculate that a lot of the money will go from the game whose jackpot is won to the other game that still has the big jackjpot. This may be a big enoug

Multi-state jackpots could bring holiday cheer
Just in time for the holidays, the nation's two multi-state lottery games have jackpots that have grown to thresholds that usually produce frenzied buying. The Mega Millions game, played in eleven states, now has a jackpot of $100 million dollars for Tuesday night's drawing. The Powerball game, played in 24 states, Washington D.C., and the Virgin Islands, is now sporting a top prize of $137 million dollars for Wednesday's drawing. If all this seems eerily familiar, that may be because last December
