US House votes to kill Internet gambling
I'll preface this post by saying that I have no respect for the New York times ongoing publishing of classified information which has compromised national security. I hope they are charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent the law provides.
That being said here is a paragraph from one of their articles concerning lobbying groups pushing to get the internet gambling ban enacted. Logic prevails that they're at least partially correct although I read on a couple of conservative discussion s

Online gambling threatened by U.S. legislators
Unfortunately, our legislators couldn't care less about what we want or what we think.
Our entire political process has become party-driven, and lawmakers' individual decisions regarding how they vote on any given issue are prioritized according to Democratic or Republican agendas; the needs and desires of the common constituency are only recognized if they have an organized lobby (pronounced: Special Interest Groups) donating to their party's campaigns.
This will never change until p

Unclaimed $800,000 Powerball Lottery Ticket Expires Today
Today is the last day left in the life of an $800,000 Powerball ticket that was sold last December in Memphis, Tennessee.
As with all of the Tennessee Lottery's numbers-pick games, players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
Since the ticket was purchased for the Dec. 10, 2005 drawing, the ticket expires on Friday.
The Lottery encourages players who purchased a ticket for that drawing to check their pockets, keepsake boxes, mattresses, to be sure their tic

The Solution t This Gas Extortion
Latest data says China is using about 40% of the world's crude and that % is climbing daily.
We haven't had a refinery built in 10 years due to greens legislation and our refineries are currently running at capacity.
Greens have pressured us into not drilling in the small section of ANWAR which was set aside for oil exploration.
Also these links to posts in my blog will give a more in depth explanation of why we are where we are with oil prices which are dictated by supply and deman

N.C. Lottery in court
Jim,your opening paragraph tells me that you have no clue as to what's going on in the NC case. The fact is that The People of this state have wanted a lottery for over 20 years. It has been a minority of lawmakers who have systematically blocked any referendum on the lottery for that time.We have been subject to lottery bills dieing in committe studies year after year. The people of this state has had it's will denighed all these many years with no releif.
Further,I invite you and any others

Once again, U.S. tries to shut down Internet gambling
Well I don't play on line but I think this could come to pass. And one of the reasons I think so is not really mentioned here in this article. The state lotteries have a vested interested in this. From their perspective they are losing money on line bets. They of course don't make any money from on line bets and they can't regulate or control on line bets. If they can put an end to on line betting then the people who play will either have to stop playing or play in state. If they play in s

GTECH awarded N.J. lottery contract despite highest bid
The state of New Jersey yesterday signed a five-year extension with longtime lottery manager GTECH Corp., despite a competitor's offer to do the job for $32 million less.State records show that GTECH's bid, which totaled $107 million over five years, was accepted because of concerns over the experience and equipment offered by rival Scientific Games, which said it could do the job for $75 million. In general, the committee bases its recommendation on the overall technical superiority of GTECH's

N.C. lottery bill limits commercials
North Carolina lawmakers are slapping limits on how much a proposed lottery can spend on advertising and what the commercials can say, but they may have underestimated both. The General Assembly is scheduled to vote this week on a state budget that includes a lottery. The lottery would be limited to spending 1 percent of its revenue on advertising. That figure, while in line with many lotteries, may not be enough for a lottery's first year. When we started out, we spent 3.1 percent, said Virgini

Hoosier Lottery insists computers are better than ball drawings
Still smarting from the sting of a massive security scandal, Indiana Lottery officials are making a claim that computerized drawings actually improve security over traditional lottery drawings conducted with a mechanical ball machine.Hoosier Lottery winning numbers are no longer determined by white balls plucked from a whirling mass inside a wire cage. Now, winning numbers for Hoosier Lotto and daily games are picked in an office room, from a computer inside a black box secured with red, tamper-e

S.C. Lottery may learn lessons from Georgia
As North Carolina inches closer to starting a lottery, Georgia lottery officials may be enjoying a sense of irony, as South Carolina is now undergoing the same uncomfortable feeling that they created for the Georgia Lottery when they started the S.C. Education Lottery in 2002.At the time, South Carolina politicians estimated that a Palmetto State lottery would siphon away up to $112 million from Georgia's lottery. But those predictions never came to pass.Instead, Georgia has enjoyed a string of r
