Why not choose the annuity?
On a million dollars, I would take the lump sum. If I netted $400k after taxes, I would use the money to buy a house with cash, thus I could invest $15k a year from monthly savings from not having a house payment into investments. Now if the winnings was $100 million or higher, I would most likely take the annuity. It would be a safe guard against me ever spending all the money. When people retire, they care about cash flow income. With me knowing I would have money coming in for the rest of my

Why not choose the annuity?
They offer it because the advertised cash jackpot amount doesn't exist.
That's why they want the winners to take an annuity, and if not, why the cash amount is so much less.

Why not choose the annuity?
CT wasn't saying that, at least I don't think so. I certainly don't want to put words in his mouth or misinterpret what he said, but I believe what he meant was that if taxes go up as high as they've been in the past ( they climbed all the way to 94% for the top bracket earnings at the end of WWII and decreased after that, but the rate was 50% as recently as 1982 - down from 70% the previous yr.) then those last checks wouldn't buy very much. I think that's what was meant and I agree.

Massachusetts man turns 21, wins $1 million lottery
Congratulations and happy birthday!!
Whatever you do, don't fall for one of those JG Wentworth scams where they buy your annuity for pennies on the dollar.

$12M Texas Lottery jackpot set to expire Monday
It was a cash value tic worth about 7.90 million. The 12 million was the annuity amount.
Still enough to retire on for me. Unfortunately, I have never ever been in League City, never mind bought a lotto tic there.

What actually happens when you win the lottery.
I have never won unfortunately but I have read you have to go meet the lottery commission at their main office to verify your ticket. You might have to have your media circus conference unless you are lucky enough to claim anonymously, they issue you your huge publicity check . Decide how you want the money, annuity or lump sum, give them your account info then wait about two to three weeks for them to wire the funds to your account. I believe the wait is for all states to remit funds to lottery

TLC The Lottery Changed My Life...on again
It appears the Tee Pee motel is still doing well, the initial cost was only 60k but they spent another 1.6 million renovating the property. Bryon Woods and his wife expanded the operation by recently adding an RV park as well.
I think his prize is paid as an annuity of roughly 2 million for 23 years before taxes.

Do you get mad when others win the lottery?
You know that 570 million was the annuity and not what you actually get if you take the lump sum. 570 is the future value not the present value.
I don't know how people play the lottery and still don't understand how the most basic thing like the prize works, no wonder most go broke.

Man wins lottery, loses in court
Ok, the reason I am saying its his fault is YOU Don't GO TO THE GUY THE SCAMMER TELLS YOU TO!! You pick up the phone and call ANYONE else. You don't have to give your name or anything 'So I have an annuity and I am being told if I sell it to someone I will save on my taxes ..... that basic question to any tax professional would have kept **ALL** of this from happening. As they ALL would have said 'WHAT? NO, you still have to pay the capitol gains!' Sorry its YOUR money and its up to YOU to prote
