Indiana couple claims $27.5 million Lotto prize
Hate me all you want, but after a drop-off like that, I'd seriously consider taking the annuity. Invest half the money and live off the other half.

CA Lottery - California Love - CA Lottery Scratchers
True. I think for me, I'd take the cash option if I win big, and take the annuity if I win the second time around for the guaranteed income stream. Two big if's...

Post Your Winning Tickets Here
I just saw the winner on the NCEL website. Very cool, I'm happy for him. He took the annuity. That's probably what I'd do if faced in that situation. NCEL takes out far too much for the one lump sum. This may sound bad but I especially like the fact that he's still young. I'm so sick and tired of winners who are close to 80 years old! I wish we had more winners in this state. Best of luck to him!

$2 million Hoosier Lottery winner has to give ex-wife $50,000
Yet, THRIFTY, this situation could be viewed for a remaining positive. Assuming Jose received the annuity payouts ... he still positively receives over apx. Net $37.6K/year for the next four years (after paying his wife, at the time of the win claim, the $10K/year). Then, he'll happily return to receiving the apx. Net $47.6K/year he has become accustomed to. A tidy lottery win sent annually from the IN Lottery Headquarters!

Why is the Ohio Classic Lotto so difficult to win?
Unless you were lucky to win the current OCL jackpot of $68 million and netting about $19 million after ALL taxes are deducted, forget about living off the interest of a smaller OCL jackpot as it starts as a $1 million annuity which would offer a cash option of about $300k after taxes. Interest on the $19 million at today's rate would bring you about $80k per year. Interest on the starting jackpot cash option of $300k would support your lifestyle with about $120 in interest per month...not ex

30 dollar scratch tx in MA tempting me when I've been doing so well on my budget
Hi mccraft, Thanks for your positive note about doing well with my budget. I know that they are advertised based on the annuity as you said (still think it's unfair that you lose money by taking the lump sum on a 1 million scratch ticket).I totally understand having to pay my fair share of taxes if I should ever win a jackpot but at least let people win the full amount so when taxes ar taken out you still get some good money.

30 dollar scratch tx in MA tempting me when I've been doing so well on my budget
Sounds like you're doing great with your budget. I'd pass on these $30 tickets (or JUST buy one) if I were in your shoes. Another thing to keep in mind with this $30 game is that the $15 million and $1 million prizes are advertised as annuity values. Most people will take the cash option, so that'll be between 50 to 60% of the advertised jackpot.

Wisconsin Lottery kicks off new '5 Card Cash'
It's not bad for a draw game, but scratch games still got it beat.(mostly) This poker game has total payout of 60% where $2 scratch games can be 65% or more. We have a $2 scratch game with a large $750,000 top prize ($1.3M annuity) and still around 63% total payout. Typical average return is higher too around 55%, where this poker game would be less than 50%, although overall odds 1 in 2.9 are better than the 1 in 4.5 for the scratcher.

Lucky Va. couple claims three major lottery prizes in one month
Welcome to the United States, where the only civilized country that taxes lottery winners anywhere in the world and the lottery legally gets away with it by lying about prize money. In this case, the lottery pays the full amount in annuity only but if you choose the cash amount then you only get the $681k. Unbelievable. Again, the only country where this happens. In any other place you win the advertised jackpot amount and not get taxed. I don't even mind the taxes to be honest but paying 1/3rd

Why does the Mega Millions Jackpot not start at $40 mil?
Or maybe PB should start at $30M instead. Actually, if they were honest and based the JP on actual base revenue collected, they would start MM at $10M and PB at $20M. But they go for the marketing bump of a larger starting JP to speed up the rate of increase of sales. MM has a slightly higher annuity factor, but PB has a dedicated jackpot reserve, so the PB JP is more inflated than MM.(and they run a JP deficit longer)
