Powerball $396.9 million winning lottery ticket sold in Florida
By Todd Northrop
One lucky ticket sold in Florida matched all six numbers in the Powerball lottery drawing Wednesday night, according to lottery officials.
That ticket ended up being worth $396.9 million, up from the estimated $394 million before the drawing. The winner will have an option to take a cash payment of $276.5 million instead of the annuity.
The massive haul is the 28th-largest US lottery jackpot of all time, and the cash value is the 20th-largest of all time. (Full list is

Please correct me if I am wrong...
You are not wrong.
As for why people play both MM and PB when the jackpots are significantly different, many people are creatures of habit and superstition. You can attempt to show people the math that proves certain ways of playing have a higher expected return than others, but ultimately people are not guided solely by logic.

Kentucky Lottery president and CEO set to retire
With no large jackpots in MM PB, the State Lotteries do suffer. They just wish for a billion-dollar jackpot.
Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Tom Delacenserie knew when to retire at age 72. I hope he enjoys life as a retiree. Family comes first.

Predicting winning numbers? Fact or fiction?
The fact of the matter is not if you can predict numbers but when and with how much resources. I predicted the winning numbers, but for one reason or another I did not spend the money. If I had, things would be different. Many I could have, but didn't. It is frustrating not being able to spend the money and see that you were right. Frankly, it is possible, but the sheer amount of money involved is staggering.
The biggest problem is covering. What if this group and not that group, etc.

Lottery millionaires' 'dreams came true' after learning son is cancer free
I totally agree with you Bleudog101. Happy Wife, Happy Life
These relatively small jackpots mean a lot to winners. Especially this family.

WA lottery launches "My Lottery 360°"
It's disturbing how often the excuse for making something worse (odds) is the people asked for something else (bigger jackpots) and to give it to them required the change. Just because some people may have wanted accounts to track their use is no excuse what-so-ever to require it of everyone who wants to scan their tickets. Too bad we don't have consumer revolts against these sorts of things, so many targets no one thing can be focused on - in my opinion.

Yea, your nose is right on point LuckyLou*..sounds rather suspicious to me too..! I just posted yesterday that there needs to be some sort of Watchdog over Lotteries in General... Siting a story out of Fla. ,where a store clerk rigged the lottery terminal to spit out the winnings numbers, then got his brother-in-law to come by to by the ticket.. They were caught, .. So your observation does raise eyebrows..!! I also said that the Government gets a huge chunk of tax revenue from all jackpots, so,

Cash vs Annuity
Well, that's a relief to know it would be the full $1m or whatever the prize is, instead of the current value like it is with the jackpots. I've been paying the extra $1 lately and I think I come out better than before when I didn't. I win quite a few Free Tickets with the Florida lottery, and have won up to $40 on the Mega due to taking the Megaplier. Same with Powerball where I've been getting $12 instead of $4. I buy fewer tickets so what I spend on them is the same as before, when I didn't p

Anonymous / Non anonymous states
In Texas we can claim anonymously on jackpots of 1 million or more. On TLC's website, you can click on a link that has a little story about jackpot winners (scratchoff and online winners) and each story that I have seen says the winner chose to claim anonymously.
Unfortunately, not all states allow anonymous claims. Having said that, I wouldn't be all that afraid of my name being out there if I couldn't claim anonymously. I think most people that have had trouble was because of being stupid,
