Man finally wins lottery claim from washed-up ticket
A Spaniard has won a six-year court battle to claim the equivalent of about $50,000 US from a winning lottery ticket that went through a washing machine and came out in pieces. The organization running the lottery, the National Organization of Blind Spaniards, had refused to pay out on grounds the pieces might stem from a scam - a bunch of tickets washed intentionally and then snippets put together to look like a ticket with the winning five-digit number. But a Madrid court ruled Thursday that pla

trashed tickets
Quote: Originally posted by four4me on February 26, 2005This is a tough guestion because there are too many variables how would you know it was yours unless it was the only ticket in the trash.I agree. If I had went to that store and played that same game and threw a ticket in that same trash can, I'de come back and say it was mine too. I think the state needs to use this incident to show the importance of double checking tickets and signing them. To be honest I don't think the 2 guys had the w

Quote: Originally posted by JAP69 on February 25, 2005 I knew this was going to happen.Me too........ and i see some polygraph testing in the works if the employee jipped the guys then we'll here more about this story soon. I agree that the guys that bought the ticket should have been able to tell for themselves if it was a winner but who knows they might not be americans and couldn't read it. However they trusted the person to check the ticket as being a winner of a fourty dollar prize they sho

Did anyone ever think about this?
Ok. Here's the theory. You cannot see the phone cord connecting the terminal to the phone jack, which connects the terminal to the lottery network to enter in the ticket, but the machine independently generates quick picks, and independently prints the tickets. There is also a training mode for the terminal (at least in PA there is), which does not require connection to the computer system since it is training mode, and it will print out tickets in which the numbers are not entered into the state

Lottery ticket plucked from trash wins $100,000

The person was told the ticket was not a winner by the clerk working the lottery machine, and then put it in the trash as most people do with losing tickets. It's one thing to throw out a winner without checking like the couple in MA allegedly did - it's another to think you've won and then have a lousy lottery clerk screw you over. That is true. Although I think most clerks dunno jack, technical

Lottery ticket plucked from trash wins $100,000
Quote: Originally posted by tg636 on February 17, 2005But if I toss that $100,000 because the person working the lottery machine tells me it's not a winner and is worthless, that's not dropping $100,000 in the street. That's making a real effort to ask someone representing the lottery if it's a winner and not getting the correct answer. When you speak with a clerk working in the place where you buy your lottery tickets, you're not speaking to someone representing the lottery. In some cases, you'
