Was that the official concession speech from Mega Millions?
You're correct, I mispoke in my post suggesting the next jackpot would be $462.5 M. The sales projections are what fuels the advertised jackpots, which means whatever MUSL projects for next Tuesday will be added to Friday's current levels if indeed the draw rolls (I will have those numbers Friday afternoon). Anyway, there was a shortage between the projected sales and the actual sales for yesterday. When sales fall short they do not have enough money to fund the advertised amount. This combined,

Was that the official concession speech from Mega Millions?
The net effect of the new Mega Millions matrix change is positive
Then perhaps you'd like to explain why, when the effect of the new annuity schedule is accounted for, the increases from any particular amount are now smaller.

$344 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot skyrockets
Once again sales are going to be short the projections, and the annuity factor decreased.
If jackpot rolls tonight it will be $400 million with $216.4 million cash, depending on last minute sales it could be $401 M with $216.9 M cash.

$344 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot skyrockets
I think the record cash value was fairly close to $475 million. Based on that, the current annuity value will need to reach about $888 million to tie the record.
656 = 888. There's some lottery math for you. If this run gets within 25% of setting a new record lottery officials will be hoarse from screaming about the new record they set.

$344 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot skyrockets
Like I said, I'm not a fan of annuities. I think that generally they are a rip off. Espcially since they are weighted for you to get more in the last few years than on the front end. But let's just say the JP reaches a point where you can actually take home $30M per year, and the CV is somewhere around 50%, those 2 factors would give me pause.
Simply something to consider since my usual way of thinking is never to take the annuity.

$297 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised again before tonight's drawing
In addition to interest rates, this is a direct result of them changing the annuity from 26 to 30 payments.
I really don't think we will get a $1 billion jackpot this draw cycle, but you never know. I agree that MM has not been performing very well since the change, but time will tell if the frenzy sales can make up for it. I have a feeling if this new matrix fails, a $5 jackpot game will arrive in the near future.

$291 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot enters top 25 list
I see that West Virginia is on the annuity list @ #19 that must be Jack Whittaker, that doesn't show on the CV list, I guess it did'nt make the top 25.
Jack Whittaker's cash value prize was $170,505,876 so it should be ranked #17 on the CV list.

$257 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot expands
The lump-sum cash value stands at a staggering $139.2 million.
These stories have always read like corny press releases but come on... Before this bogus payout and matrix change the cash would be around $180 million with that $257M annuity. Obviously that's still a lot of money but this has been total BS.

$257 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot expands
MM sales are way down; they fell dramatically since the $2 powerball, further with the new matrix.
Think of it, a 17th draw with a bump - with a weakened annuity - of less than $30 million at the $200 million level.

Ohio Classic Lotto (6/49) at $16.6M/$8.3M cash
True, but since the winner taking the annuity gets ~1.7M anually the whole $25.5M isn't invested for the whole thirty years.
Ohio is not the only state with a jackpot that size with those kinds of odds, there's probably a state within driving distance of you with something similar.
