$400 MILLION: Powerball jackpot skyrockets
Though I am not an attorney nor a CPA and therefore certainly am not offering legal or financial advice, a downfall can be when an annuity recipient dies. Taxes on the entire remaining amount can become due immediately, even though the amount still has many years of payouts remaining. If this is the latter years it may not be a problem but if someone dies in the early years it could become a nightmare. Before someone says but you can... yes, trusts can be set up to claim the prize possibly, etc.

Jackpot-winning Powerball ticket worth $131.5 million sold in Philadelphia
One jackpot-winning Powerball ticket worth $131.5 million from the June 22 drawing was sold at Federal Beer, 1440 Federal St., Philadelphia. The ticket correctly matched all five white balls 13, 19, 23, 33, and 57, with Powerball number 28 to win a prize of a $131.5 million annuity, or $77.4 million cash, less 25 percent federal withholding. The retailer will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. It seems Saturday night's 'Super Moon' shone down some 'super luck' on

Can MM & PB Start Being Honest? Must this farce continue?
We don't pay (play) with dongs here in America. LOL. Yoho, just check the annuity box on your playslip and you will get the annuitized amount. All of it. Or if you croak before you get all of it, your beneficiary will get the rest of it. It's not that hard. Really.

Can MM & PB Start Being Honest? Must this farce continue?
I just thought of a good example. Next time, instead of annuity, they should just say 105,175,000,000 Jackpot! And in fine prints say In vietnamese dongs. Worth about 5,000,000 USD. Doesn't that sound nice? 105 billion jackpot! Actually this example is EXACTLY the same as what powerball/MM is doing. The currencies are different, because of the time value of money. In this case, the PV (Present Value) of 105 billion vietnamese dongs is about 5 million USD

Post your scratch ticket results
Exactly..before I knew, they added up to thousands. Even in MA, they just flood the market with duds but people still buy simply looking at the happy faces in winners section on the lottery website. Yeah..they advertise it as a million but thats if winner choses an annuity and you end up taking 400K home after tax if you chose lump sum. Not saying 400K is low but saying there is a huge difference between the 1Mil they advertise and $400K the winner ends up with. And people like me drop thousands

Powerball's 15 million dollar increase - why?
The primary driver is higher yield on the annuity, meaning lower cash value required for same JP, and fully funded can happen earlier. Total sales are only a few million more than the accumulated total for the last run at the same stage of $70M. Combined with increased sales from CA, this is now the new normal.

6 things to do before claiming your lottery prize
heymaker! Certainly, a FREQUENT lottery player should always know what the advertized annuity jackpot's cash value is worth ... PLUS know what annuitized and cash value amounts are after apx. 48% Federal and State taxes are deducted. That way, if the current NET Amount isn't enough, they can wait until the jackpot grows to meet their criteria. So, everyone pull out your calculator and some paper -- find out what would be your ideal starting jackpot amount to invest in.

If you won either the MM/PB JP: How soon would you claim your prize?
the answer for me is simple, when I win, no more than a week or two. Maybe even that Friday, if it's the tuesday or wednesday drawing. No student loans, no mortgage, no kids, single, so no annuity for me, in the words of randy moss, straight cash homey . The family would be taken care of, then i'd travel, first destination, Dubai. I've been there three times before and I loved it everytime. Then i'd hit the road and visit historical military places across the US, with Gettysburg being number one
