if you won over $70 mil- would you settle for the lump sum or annual installments
Is Texas still the only state that you have to choose when you buy the tickets? I remember when I first bought tickets in California, I always wanted to say 'cash value' out of habit. I'm going to have to start remembering that again here in two weeks.
Back when I wasn't sure which option to choose, it would have been nice to be able to wait until I knew if I won or not to make the choice. I used to buy one ticket with the cash value and another with the annuity (different numbers though

$1M lottery winner pleads guilty to theft
A net $35K annuity + income from gambling per year isn't bad living; if a solo person using careful spending. However, if he won another $23K and continued stealing, perhaps he spent more than $23K to get that it! Or perhaps he simply enjoys being a stealing bully month-in-month-out, and living higher on the hog than his net income from work plus gambling provided him.
Greeds and addictions are deeply entrenched habits/mindsets. I've got my own couple of addictions (unhealthy foods and inacti

Florida Powerball winner claims $50 million jackpot
Thanks, tax account Jill34786, for sharing your expertise.
The only problem with WAITING to claim, IN MY STATE, is that if a MM or Powerball jackpot winner claims more than 2 months after the drawing date, they give up the right to claim the lump sum and are forced to accept payment as a yearly annuity amount. Plus, for those November and December winners, some years, like this year the tax rate brackets aren't published early, by October, for the following year and Congress instead hurts the

really?
The CASH VALUE is the REAL jackpot. They invest the cash amount to achieve the annuity over a certain period of years. Just like if you take the cash and invest it yourself.
Taxes, well, they get paid no matter what option you choose.

Are the base jackpots really too low??
I'd rather play Hoosier Lotto and have a 1 in 12 million chance of winning the jackpot than play Powerball or Mega Millions and have a 1 in 175 million chance of winning the jackpot. Sure, the jackpots for Powerball and Mega Millions get a lot higher than Hoosier Lotto, but my goal is to win something I can retire off of, not spend money like Jay Z. I personally would retire off a $3,000,000 Hoosier Lotto jackpot. I would take the annuity which would equate to $100,000 before taxes every year fo

Woman found guilty of murder in lottery winner's death
Life in jail is too good for her. Im not saying there isnt good financial planners out there, but i doubt he would have kept ahold of most of his money no matter where he invested it. He obviously should have had an annuity. and some real financial councelling. I recall hearing the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath is the 2nd one has decided they can get away with murder.
Im sure she will do well in jail, as long as sociopaths have people to manipulate, they're happy.

$425 MILLION: Largest Powerball lottery jackpot in history
If I gave you the interest payments on a $1 million annuity, how or what property taxes you pay (or dont pay) would be your problem. lol. lol. lol.
I can just see someone getting mad over receiving a $50k per year gift and saying: this is not enough .... lol. lol. lol.

If Powerball Rolls Wednesday.
IF it rolls, I'd say about 575. But as everybody gets excited about the advertised annuity amount, it's the cash amount that really counts.
I'll just buy my usual $2 tic.
