Can a non-profit Org. cash a JP ticket and NOT pay taxes?
I think you would undergo TONS OF SCRUTINY if this is a recently established organization by yourself. If it is a well known and reputable charity then I don't forsee any issues. I wouldn't elect this option if the primary purpose is to avoid taxes as Uncle Sam will be in your shorts and the media would track this story until they find a scandal to report. If you want your money DRIBBLED out to you in the form of a six figured salary, why not take the annuity or hire a business manager/tax attor

$102 million lottery winners - 17 years later
Actually, taking the annuity was the only PB Jackpot option way back then!
I'm glad these folks are still able to enjoy their big bank accounts! I want my own big jackpot win!.

"For Life" Games - Would they offer you a lump sum?
Whether that's offered is going to be based on each individual game and its rules. If you had to have the cash in a lump sum, I'm sure any legitimate win could be converted to a one time payment through any of those places that advertise buying your annuity. Personally, I wouldn't do that. I'm sure they take off quite a percentage to make it lucrative for them. I'd be happy knowing I have a scheduled check coming in on a regular basis. It wouldn't allow for lavish spending, but would be nice for

??Forking over EXTRA CASH when Jackpots SKYROCKET??
We all talk about playing an extra QP or two when the jackpot annuity value reaches a certain mark. Just how much does that translate into?
0 dollars is not an option because we would love to hear comments from those that are that disciplined through written commentary.

When was the last time you saw a multi-state lottery jackpot...
The March 27 MM Jackpot, which had an annuity value of $363M actually had a pretax expectation value of 1.10, which was higher than the record setting expectation value of the following $640M annuity jackpot because of the Poisson probability distribution, which favored 3 winners (the number actually obtained).
The ticket sales were $652 million just for that one drawing and with 3 winning tickets the overall odds of winning the jackpot were 3 in 652 million or 1 in 217 million. And that's

Lotteries can be played any way one chooses.
Personally I play according to expectation values.
Lotteries most often do not have expectation values that approach casino games, which typically have pretax expectation values of around 0.9. However, for very large jackpots lottery expectation values can actually exceed 1.0.
I never play at Casinos by the way.

Question about Lump Sum or Annuity
I think anyone any age should take the cash option.. Lets just say you win and you choose annuity.. and then die.. No one in your family will have the money because the payments will end.. But if you take lump sum and then die..it's in your personal account and the person you have down to claim after you die gets it.. which most likely be a family member.. know it's a stretch lol.. but yes, I think about those things lol...

MM's megaplier
Life changing my tukus. If the $12 million annuity/$8 million cash option pre-taxes isn't life changing enough, I wonder what kind of life you* expected to have.
*You=general you, not you specifically.

48 Philly transit workers win $172M Powerball jackpot
Yeah I see your point now. Would be better off just donating that $100K annuity to my local soup kitchen. Who would want to be bothered with that
small chump change anyways?

Anyone else find the jump in MM j/p surprising?
MM $12M starting jackpot is a joke.
After thousands of pages discussing the PB and MM jackpots, you still don't understand it. The current $20 million prize is an annuity based on the cash value of $14.3 million from the $25 million wagered on the last drawing combined with what is expected to be wagered on the next drawing. Neither game has a money tree so their starting jackpots are based on expected ticket sales. MM had larger sales following the last run, but it was expected because sal
