Woman found guilty of stealing winning lottery ticket
Taking something that belongs to someone else even if you never benefits from it is still steeling. Holding a lottery ticket worth $175,000 that she thought belonged to 16 guys who didn't know what they had and were too dumb, lazy or busy to check for themselves and would never be any wiser if she didn't tell them is probably what made her a little shaky. A little time in jail will fix that. They didn't throw those tickets away but gave them to her to check and she should have known at least one

Couple Claims $4.6 Million Lottery Prize With Hour To Spare
Alot of people play for the heck of it. It's an urban legend that only poor, desperate people waste their money on Lottery tickets. Take our Senator Millionaire... made the world-wide news; or, Jack Whitaker from West Virginia, he too was already a millionaire contractor; half the people who win BIG Jackpots are comfortably middle class or better. In my town, a guy who owned a big restaurant hit for 3 million; the Whites in May 2004 hit the largest POWERBALL jackpot in PA history-netted $110 m

LOTTERY’S First-ever millionaire raffle
Doc- I agree that the prize payout would have grown tremedously. According to the website though- it was established that 500,000 was the limit. Once the rules are drawn up I dont think they are allowed to do an about face and change them after the tickets go on sale. Be it for the grandprize or the way they devy out the prize pool. Part of the enticement was the *odds* factor. Increasing tickets at this point would lower the odds... (PS- glad you bought a ticket!!May it be one of the winners!).

Discussion of lottery at work...
Yesterday at work while I was sitting at a lunch table, I had opened my wallet to get some money out when one of my old tickets fell out. The guy next to me said, How much money are you going to give me if you win? I looked at him and said Well, it's an old ticket and I didn't win anything. Which was true, but I got the feeling that the guy was half-joking. I was tempted to say Nothing. Since we aren't in a pool together and we aren't even friends. I just smiled and kept my mouth shut.Has

Gift Taxes
Yeah the IRS does not want anyone to get out of working and paying more taxes. They take advantage of the lottery BIG time, and steal from all the pots. Almost makes you want to boycott the lottery, but then of course you also still stay poor. I think that if you can prove that you had a pool with a family member, you can avoid some of the taxes? I am not sure how much that would be though. I would most likely set one family member up with a million dollars, at the highest returnable interest ra

Couple learns downside of lottery pools -- the hard way
A United Kingdom couple faces the prospect of losing their home after the High Court dismissed their claim for a slice of a 7.2 million (US$12.3 million) UK Lotto jackpot.Tony and Kay Tomkins were handed an 86,000 (US$147,026) legal bill after claiming a fellow syndicate member struck lucky but secretly kept their share of the payout. After a seven-year wrangle, the court accepted evidence that pal Mark East's dad won the cash and gave him a 1 million slice.A judge struck out the Tomkins' cl

Todd - error on results page?
Hi Todd, just a note that in the Canadian National 6/49 prize payouts the lower tier prizes are as follows:2+Bonus/6 => $5 and 3/6 =>$10(all the higher payouts vary depending on the share of the pool as you prob know). I just noticed Rip Snorter got short-changed, the prize is $10, not $5 as shown on Nov 23 results page,Rip SnorterMulti-StateCanada Lotto 6/49 3of6 13-17-33-36-38-49 04-06-10-17-33-49$5Rip SnorterMulti-StateCanada Lotto 6/49 3of6 15-17-18-32-33-4904-06-10-17-33-49$5 Cheers

What if someone interferes ??
I thought this post was a joke at first when I read it but by seeing the replies I guess rundown was really serious when he/she asked this question. 1st of all I went to the WI website to read this story that was mentioned but I guess WI felt that if you win the Powerball that besides leaving your town your story should also disappear. So of course like anyone who would want to find out things for themselves I went to the Powerball website were I found the story. For some reason I don't see anyt

Texas Lottery to change Lotto game back to 6/54 format
O.K. Here's my idea.Now, obviously, people do not like the 5+1 format. But I'm sure people still like the multiple ways to win, and the improved overall odds. So I decided on a 6/54 format, but with a seperate bonus ball drawn from the remaining 48 (kind of like my Super Lotto South format). This will have the best of both worlds. Match Prize Odds 6 Jackpot** 1 : 25,827,165 5+Bonus $120,000* 1 : 4,304,527 5 $2,500* 1 : 91,586 4+Bonus $1,000* 1 : 36,634 4 $44* 1 : 1,593 3+Bonus $33* 1 : 1,195 2+B

Texas Lottery to change Lotto game back to 6/54 format
Actually, Lotto TX did lose a lot of players just because of the switch to the bonus ball, myself among them. Add to that the addition of MegaMillions, and the number of players dropped even more.Even with the scandal over inflated jackpots, I would return to playing Lotto TX if they drop the bonus ball. Yes the jackpots are small and grow slowly but $4 million is nothing to sneeze at.My work pool plays MM no matter how much the jackpot is. Even when Lotto TX is more than MM (I think that's o
