The most important question on LP
I voted my own numbers. If the only choice I had were to play either QP's or my own numbers, then I would play my own numbers. That being said, while the bulk of the combinations I play are my own (or those selected by my playing partner when we pool money to play), I do play some QP's with my selected numbers.I'll often play a QP on panel E of the bet slip, after my own numbers on panels A through D. Many times, some or all of the QP numbers generated are from the numbers I selected on the fir

Oregon winners and gift tax.
Thanks Chewie. That was informative. I think they are going to have a heck of a job proving they had a pool in place before the win. They have NO agreement. They have NO pattern of regular play between all the winners. You're right that they may have back dated something. I just think the IRS will have a field day here with it being so high profile. It was their financial planner who told them to stop talking to the media before collecting the prize. Too late by then. They had said enough.

Quickpick or QuickRIP?
In NJ, the law specifically states it goes back to the lottery board to promote the lottery. The state can only get it if they write another law. Chewie, when I wrote what about the unclaimed.. I was referring to all the people who buy tickets and then don't claim the money. In FL it also goes back to the lottery, I think into the pool. (I'd have to look at their FAQs) but that $22 mil was such an unusually high amount that they took a vote on its disposition. I can't remember when it was,

Record Jackpot Claimed, question!
That's correct, however it's important to note that in addition to forming the club, the club must obtain a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) from the IRS. I think you implied that in your post, but just to make sure there is no confusion, the club must apply to the IRS for a FEIN.I spoke to a person in the Tax Law division of the IRS a couple of months ago, and they told me that if the club is actually a lottery pool that is playing long-term, then forming the club involved crea

Record Jackpot Claimed, question!
Lottery Pools are an accepted way of gambling; otherwise they would not be popular. How long do you think it would take for a denial of a Lottery Pool to make the papers and television? Ever heard of a denial? N-O-P-E ! Lottery Pools are like a blood tranfusion to the lottery. There is no laws against pre-planning, only on post-planning. If there is a standing agreement, that can be sworn to, or documented some way (emails are good), you will have little or no trouble. There are several cases

Mega Millions Out Shining Powerball
i live in Mass, very close to the connecticut border, i play a pool at work for about 6 months now, and getting 3 numbers for the lousy 7 bucks seems to be the norm. we have done pools where we play 150 quik piks, or at least a hundred and for the most part we get nothing. we went and played powerball for 2 draws in a row we were 1 number away from 200,000 and the next draw 1 number away from 10,000. i know the powerplay costs a extra buck, but that has given us some good play money for a few dr

PA Unlucky for Life
I guess the evil empire decided to come up with another, better low-matrix game for PA .Easy Money LottoPick 6 from 36Price : $1Jackpot begins at $500,000 30-year annuity, or $250,000 all-cash. And if and when it reaches $2,000,000 annuity value, the jackpots rolls down to the lower tiers. I could have just had it roll on until won, but PA already has 3 different games that do that. Prize Rolldown Prize Odds Match 6 Jackpot* N/A 1 : 1,947,792 Match 5 $1,000 Approx. $5,000 1 : 10,821 Match 4 $20

HI!My name is Ed (Ekrete) and I am looking forward to playing the lottery in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts seriously. I've played in the past, but never given any thought to the numbers I pick - usually birthdates, fortune cookies, etc.. I look forward to reading the various blogs and posts, but theres so much I don't know where to start. I'd like to focus on the pick 3 in RI and thepick 4 in Mass, with an occasional powerball or Mega millions ticket. Although i dont have an unlimited b

CDN Lotto 649 Sets A New Record
It's probably too late to join existing pools for tonight's $40 million draw, but there is still a 6% chance that the jackpot will roll over again for Saturday. In that event, how do we go about settting up a pool? My idea is that if we get enough players, then we can buy a bunch of 8-number combination plays. For example, if we get 40 members willing to spend C$42 each through Paypal, then we can buy 10 8-number combinations, covering 840 possibilities. The tickets can be scanned and emailed to

Powerball lottery 'winner' turns coy
If you are an Officer of the Trust, or LLC, your signature would be required anyway. The signature on the ticket has nothing to do with the tax paperwork. For example, regardless of the number of the people in a pool, one person has to sign the ticket. After that, you all start the IRS paperwork. The state would distribute the moneys in whatever way was required; it is the IRS you have to worry about. You can bet your bippy, the IRS will be there telling you their viewpoint - thus the lawyer thi
