Nebraska cashes in on record lottery sales
Nebraska also was a big winner this week in the Powerball lottery.Over the 10 weeks it took to amass the record $340 million jackpot, Nebraska profited about $2.1 million for education, environmental and State Fair trust funds. A big run like that is always good for the bottom line, said Brian Rockey, spokesman for the Nebraska Lottery. An Oregon couple won the Wednesday drawing. The winning numbers: 7, 21, 43, 44, 49 and 29.Since the game started on Aug. 10, $9.7 million in $1 tickets were sold

Im done with Powerball...
I just realize that I could be putting that extra $10 - $20 towards pick 3 which Ive made more money from. It would be nice but in 7 years of playing Ive probably won less than $100 in Powerball winnings while Ive made enough $ from pick 3 and pick 4 to pay off credit cards, and put a small down payment on a vehicle and trust me its hard enough hitting 1/1000 odds or 1/10000 odds. So unless there's a pool at work I dont see myself putting $5, $10 or $20 towards a 1 in 146 million dollar dream.

Is Match 5 Bonus Prize a BIG MISTAKE ??
Well, again, I think it would be wonderful if they'd take it a step further. There are EIGHT prize levels below the Biggie (5 white balls matching plus the PB matching). Why not take that secondary j/p prize and when the main J/P is hit ... then split it (that secondary j/p) 8 ways equally between the levels (which would come out to 12.5 percent of the secondary prize pool for each prize level below the main, GP level), then in turn, each level would split their percentage as a bonus betwen that

Powerball lottery states report brisk sales for huge jackpot
You stated you have never found a site that mentions actual taxes withheld. I gotta ask: Did you do any research at all? A simple search to powerball.com, then the winners page, provides extremely enlightning information. You will probably consider this earth shaking, but there is actual information available. Quite a bit more than I found at disneyland.com. Just look at the last two winners. Nothing in depth, just the first two winners listed. Took, maybe, 90 seconds.http://www.powerball.com/p

"Taping" in advance & Conspiracy Theories
I even think the games are rigged (at times, but not often). So lets face it the games are not rigged and for them to do so would be so hard it wouldn't even be funny! The auditors (all of them) would have to be in on it from the start to finish (like the Pennsylvania scandal was way back when). Besides I would hope that the lottery has learned from others mistakes (like Pennsylvania's) about not having just a few auditors doing the job of auditing by having each auditors name in a pool and draw

Is a 400 million jackpot possible?
Hey ScubaSki,The difference in percentages are mainly due to the different terms of length of the Annuity that is bought with the cash pool. Megamillions has a 26 year annuity payout, while powerball has a 30 year annuity payout. So they can advertise powerball at a higher number (though lower percentage) then they would be able to a MM jackpot because the initial prize money has another four years to earn interest in the annuity. The lottery association does not actually have the 340 millio

Talk about jackpot fatigue
the local news media didn't report about the Powerball drawing and the ticket sales until this weekend. the media doesn't report on the lottery until there seems a lot of interest at the retail outlets, and there doesn't appear to be a lot interest unless the media starts to report it. it's difficult to say which comes first, but they seem to be mutually reinforcing.going many weeks without winners is also going to result in less publicity for the game. fewer winners means less publicity whic

Powerball at $340,000,000!!
There is a rule that if Powerball reaches a new record, for every drawing, the jackpot cannot increase by more than $25 million per drawing. The previous record was $315 million, so for next drawing, the annuity jackpot cannot be higher than $340 million - if it is not hit Wednesday, Saturday's jackpot cannot be higher than $365 million, and so forth. The extra money that goes to the jackpot rolls down to the match 5+0 winners, and that accumulates until the record jackpot is won, on which d

Another New York Concept
The source is mathematics. I calculated what the payout would be compared to the odds. And the answer is 9%. So much of the prize pool goes to smaller prizes, and this system would put more (but not too much more) into the jackpot. And if people see a higher, and growing, top prize, more people will play. Besides, there already is a game with big smaller prizes, Take Five.So in conclusion, the scales are tipped too far to the side of smaller prizes right now, this would help balance it out.Would

Deflate and Inspect 5
To be honest, I'm a little stumped how I would do it, because Pick 5 is such a different game from Pick 3/4. An Inspector 5 would make perfect sense, but Deflate is a different animal.Deflate 3/4 currently reduces the number of picks based on combinations of numbers. Since there is a finite number of combinations, it is possible to go with that approach. With Pick 5, we'd obviously have to focus on the reducing a pool of numbers, rather than reducing combinations. But if we did that, wouldn't
