Thanks for the comments folks. For uprman and others in Illinois you know how the machines are supposed to work, this was just weird as $1 and a Pick 3 play slip should not generate two lines of MM numbers. Sometimes on these machines the upper row which is draw games will not be lit, a lot of people don't realize it and wind up buying scratchers, as RJOh said the machines don't give change.

Mr. RJoh, I think it takes one heck of a lot more discipline to select a number and play it forever. You're never going to spend more money on lotto, than the prize, should you (or shouldn't you) hit it. But, the people who thrive on seeing you (and me for that matter), continue to lose, will forever be shut up, when you do hit.

So the 25% (federal) and 4 or 6 % (state) withholding doesn't apply here then right -- I'm having somebody else claim it for me, and I'm trying to get a sense of how much to give them (I was going to give them some, aside from tax amount, anyways). But obviously, I want to make sure they don't have to pay the taxes on it themselves. Otherwise it's a pretty useless gift. And no, it's not to avoid paying child support, alimony, back taxes, or any other debt. Thanks,
