Iowa $16.5M Hot Lotto winner claims prize with two hours to spare
Did anyone else also notice that because they waited so long the, annuity amount actually went down from 16 to 14 million. Who is their investment adviser? Madoff?
Also agree that any unclaimed prize money should be rolled into the current drawing amount. Why should the states get all that money?

152 million dreams.. How much money you would earn a second..
Cool, thanks.
How about doing it for the length of the annuity (30 years)?

A bad idea for a winner
When I get lucky in the lottery I do not plan on starting a business. But I would like to find a good bank and have someone help me invest the money that I won so I could live comfortably and not go broke over the next thirty years. I figure I am 36 now and I could live until I am 66 so I would want my winnings to last me that long. I want safe investments too not ones were I will lose my money quickly but ones that will go for a long time. I have been debating since the jackpot is over $100 mil

A bad idea for a winner
And now the MM jackpot amount is exactly 100 millions... And I am thinking about doing the same stupid venture.
You're probably not the only one making plans to spend that $100 millions. I would wish you good luck if I wasn't making similar plans myself. I'll probably take the annuity, getting rid of all that money every year before the next check comes would be all the work I could handle since I'm retired and the yearly checks would be more than twice what I made my whole working career.

Unclaimed Iowa lottery jackpot to expire Dec. 29
Does the winner still have the choice to take a lump-sum? In some lotteries you only have a limited time to choose the lup-sum. The winner may be required to take the annuity.
When I read these stories, my first thought is that the winner may have died. Anyone in the area with relatives who died during the relevant time period who were known lottery players should check carefully to see if their deceased family member had the winning ticket.

Another man claims to have lost $254M Powerball ticket
That is certainly an interesting position to take. I suspect the IRS would argue that because the decision was solely in the hands of the winner, constructive receipt has occurred if the winner chooses the cash option a few days after January 1. I don't have a good feel for how a judge might decide the issue for a single winner. A group that won might have a more persuasive agrument that constuctive receipt had not occurred because it took that long for the group to reach agreement on whether to

$41.2M Ohio Classic Lotto jackpot largest in country again
NJ's Pick 6 is pretty high, too. 9.8 million, annuity and before taxes.
Will play.

I have a question about when a group of co-worker hit a jacpot game
Not quite true. Should the insurance company with which your annuity was placed goes bankrupt, you lose all your money.
Illinois lotto was sued because of an insurance company going belly up. The lotto winner lost all his winnin's.

NH Lottery to debut new scratch game
Sounds like an ok game but they should just call it what it is - a $20 scratcher with the possibility of a 2 million dollar top prize paid by an annuity over a 20 year period. Only one person, the 5th finalist, will have a chance to win the top prize and if he doesn't, it won't be awarded to anyone.
And I've never understood how you can get away with calling 20 years for life . If someone wins one of these at 20 years old, do they die at 40?

They should let you collect interests on Annuity...
Even if they dont let you something the state could do is with the annuity is let it collect interest and take the interests for the state...Imagine how much money the state will make...
but please let it go to something the USA/PARTICULAR COUNTRY/STATE needs not to education...some charity or program of the state...senior citizens something except education....
