First, is this $50 million before or after taxes? If I did win such a large prize, I would take the annuity option and probably live life the same way I always have. I might even still keep working. The only exception is that I would have to learn how to protect my winnings from people pretending to need financial help.

Based on past stories, it appears all lottery jurisdictions require the entire group to pick cash or annuity. There are very few lottery games in Canada that pay annuities. That ones that do, dictate a cash payout if it is a group win.

i bought two $30/win million today, #40 an #41, 41 was a $35 winner other was loser. scratch offs are fun and IRONICALLY offer the best odds in the whole lottery which isnt saying much. The lotto for instance, redistributes a mere 40% to prizes, thats ridiculously stupid to allow them to take 60%, then declare the other 40% annuity and then tax it.. when its all said and done they keep 80% of all the money lol. Congratulations Jody! Wow, in Illinois, when the scratch-off jackpot is $3 million (no higher jackpots offered), that jackpot can only be claimed as an ANNUITY paid out over 26 annual payments! That's not as enticing as being able to claim a large portion of the annuitized amount (-35% reduction, as Florida allows) in pre-federal taxes lump-sum option.

yeah I know what you mean, I always tell myself to stay away from $2 tickets but I end up buying them anyway, especially the newer ones. I ironically have had my luckiest win on the $2 loose change doubler ticket ($50 winner and then a $20 winner right after) it was like 1 in 6,000 odds. If you feel lucky I'd say go for it, but for me the chance of hitting any annuity is much more appealing
