The Canadian 6/49 lotto is starting to look really good. 30 million canadian dollars with odds of 1 in 14 million for one ticket. Another great thing about the Canadian lotto is the advertized jackpot is exactly what you get, it's the lump sum with taxes already paid. Not like the lottos in the US where the advertized jackpot is the annuity. If I was in Canada or close to the border, I'd play this for sure. The online butler service is really steep, so I'll wait until the jackpot is bigger.

That's odd the self-service ones are annuity by default as with the clerks computers they are cash option by default (I think they still have to hit a button to confirm but unless you state otherwise they will select cash option). Personally having to choose at the time of purchase is no big deal, but I wouldn't see a problem with it being like every other state.

Its amazing how a $48.8m win would result in a $8.4m payout, it feels like you win big just in order to pay huge tax back to the government, this is sad as you can't say your a $30m $40m $100m and so on lottery winner not if you opt for your winnings to be paid in annuity payments. Wow, I hadn't known that the top prize was a $1 million annuity, paying out equal installments over 20 years. I presumed that it was lump-sum cash! I did that to my tickets when the jackpot was lower but now that it's this high, no way am I going to collect without using a trust. Maybe if there's another winner and they get a lot of publicity I'll collect myself, since at least here you can get minimal publicity . Going out to pickup another $5 ticket but this time with annuity. $8.8 million a year... wow.
