For the Millionth Time...
Lump sum without question. This stems from the fact that I have ZERO faith or trust in the government when it comes to handling money. I'll gladly give half of the potential annuity value just for the peace of mind of knowing the government is not involved in it's disposition.

In Cali...
Good point, Raven62. Sound like yet another reason, nd a really strong one, to opt for the cash. What if an annuity kept getting taxed at a higher and higher rate?

Schedule for "Lottery Changed My Life"
I think I know what story you're talking about, I wrote a post several months ago that was basically referring to it in the story about Alex Toth, it's the story of Andrew Cicero. There's a bit more to it to than that, I couldn't find the story on LP so here's a link to the story. http://www.jsonline.com/news/waukesha/29420174.html Of course you can't completely trust your advisers either, I mean you can't just let them have free reign over your assets while you retire and don't have a han

Kentucky: 7/1 - 7/31/2009
LOL Al, I hope it hits but a finder's fee is unnecessary. It's been a tough few months since I got dumped from my work at home customer support gig (probably sent the jobs to India), but I've cashed in a sizable annuity and I'm eating balogna and limited to a 12 pack of beer a week until it clears the bank... something about the size of the check that makes them want to hold it for two weeks. go figure. As soon as it's available I'll purchace a few more things I need for my new business, and a

How would you allow yourself to change if you won?
I would keep anonymous for a year. Before cashing in the winning ticket, I would hire a lawyer and financial advisor. Since I'm taking annuity, I will give my parents half until their death. They've worked so hard all their lives and I want them to enjoy the money before they die. I'll give my brother 30,000 a year until his death. Money or no money, a college degree is my priority right now. I want a to live a normal life as much as I can because I won the money, I didn't earn it. If a wealthy

12 Michigan women + 2 men share $12.7M lottery jackpot
Piaceri right now with a 30 year annuity it is more like $330,000 per person before taxes. I wouldn't turn down $330,000. However, if you are going to take 10,000,000 to 1 odds you might as well try for more than that since it would almost certainly be your only big jackpot win ever.

Tax-Free and Anonymity
US state lotteries could learn from the Aussies, all lottery prize money is tax-free in Australia and winners can remain anonymous, which most do. Also, if you win $53 million, you get $53 million, they don't have any annuity nonsense. That's what America needs - TRUTH IN JACKPOTS!

Calif. man with 3 jobs wins $39M lottery jackpot
Here is a link to usamega.com. If you place your curser on the Current Jackpot amount at the top of the page, it will show you the annuity amount and cash value. Also down along the left side. If you click on Jackpot Analysis, it will give you a state by state breakdown after taxes. Hope this helps. http://www.usamega.com/

N.C. town abuzz over $88M Powerball lottery jackpot win
My only problem with a PB annuity is that it starts out small and builds annually....well the first year would be the year I would need the most!!! I would want to move and buy a house and car somewhere else for my personal safety. It seems they have that all backwards. I know, I know, it's adjusted for inflation but the opposite would keep you more grounded: Start out big then spend the rest of your life trying to maintain what you have instead of wasting it. I think it would make people more a
