The estimate doesn't sound so wrong if you frame it as being off by about 4 percent. How about when the estimate is off by a bit more than 10%? The previous jackpot was $1 billion, and they advertised an increase of $600 million and only got $537 million. That's their actual error. The fact that they can never be absolutely sure what the final jackpot will be is completely irrelevant. They could have done what MUSL did with the record PB jackpot and started by advertising the jackpot at 1.3

While Gloria held the annuity record for a single winner she was second to last years MM winner in July in actual cash winnings. The MM winner received 378 mill and Gloria 370.9 mill. Gloria is from Fl which has no state tax on lottery winnings while the MM winner was from Indiana i think which does tax lottery winnings so in that case Gloria would come out ahead. I doubt if either Gloria or the MM winner are all that upset about having there record beat though

Last year when the record was set ticket sales for the 950 mill JP and the record breaking JP totalled 2.15 billion dollars. Some people went way way overboard spending money and some may still be in debt because of it. Also many others may have said never again am i going to do this again.
