The winner does get all the cash, the $88M is the amount it will yield if the winner is willing to allow the $40 to be invested in an annuity over the next 30 years. It like giving someone a few packages of seeds and telling them you have given them enough food for a life time if they are willing to start a garden with those seeds and maintain it for 30 years.

No.I mean the Official Powerball website. http://www.powerball.com/ the Official Mega Million website http://www.megamillions.com/whereto/states_il.asp They both clearly state what the annuity jackpot AND the cash option jackpots are.Having proved my point I will not argue with someone that gets his kicks arguing with everyone who has a different opinion than they do.

Winning a taxable amount in any game is like getting income in any other fashion. The feds take about 25% up front as withholding ... like they do from your paycheck. I was just in Vegas last week. I saw those Machines everywhere. You have to play $3 a spin for the jackpot. For the jackpot to get up to $33 million, which I am sure is an annuity but still, the odds have to be pretty staggering. Congrats to her. The lottery doesn't buy the bonds until the prize is claimed and that is if they want the annuity. The players don't get the interest. I would assume the lottery gets to just collect the interest when it posts to the bank account that they use to keep the prize money in. Brad

I always thought it took about 2 weeks, which is why I wish we could remain anonymous in FL. Apparently these winners aren't too shaken up about getting their names/pictures in the news. By the way, I believe that the winners always get the interest, but not sure. Can anyone confirm this? In other words, if you claim a prize after 6 months, does the payment include the interest accrued from the annuity during that period?
