Powerball lottery jackpot hits $200 million
So, no it is NOT $230, at best, it will 25% of that. That is closer to the real world.
Maybe so, especially with inflation; even though the lottery does increase its annuity payment each year. However the lottery does pay out $230 million either way, but just doesn't like to say that 25% and more will go to the greedy IRS.

POLL: Best reason for cash
I read where the Martian Lottery Commission discontinued the annuity option when they discovered NASA's Mars rovers.
It didn't say if they have live or computer drawings.

POLL: Best reason for cash
You can't roll around naked in a big pile of annuity.
BTW, the Mayan calendar doesn't stop at 12/21/12 any more than the Gregorian calendar stops at 21/31/12. OTOH, my 2007 calendar did stop on 1/31/08. Strangely, the world is still here, and appears to be relatively unchanged.

Lump Sum or payments?
Lump, Lump, Lump, no matter what my age. I just do not trust an annuity. Says who we will be a USA in 20-30 years. The power moguls that be make take over and there would be no lottery-no nothing!
So LUMP it here!

Paying a jackpot over 26 years is too long of a time frame
sometimes one cannot advertise everything in one shot (because of time, space, cost constraints etc)so they advertise the most outstanding feature of the deal...if you want to get into the deal (new car, mortgage, lottery) you have the responsability to get informed or ask for all the details involved and how it works...
For the ones that say false advertising...it is not..it is legally correct but of course the fine print will reveal all the other details...so the advertiser will not go ahea

He had a case? You do realize it doesn't matter what someone is sueing you for right? Anybody can sue anybody for anything. Whether or not it's foolish, worthy, or cut and dry will be determined by the judge. Why do you think the judge ruled in the lottery's favor? When you play a game, you read the rules. It's common sense. Granted, being this is the lottery, most people haven't bothered reading the rules. They're just looking for a way to get rich, but they don't have nothing to complain about

$220M Mega Millions lottery jackpot advice offered
Were I to win that $220m, I definitely would ask for cash, not an annuity. That's 50% gone right there. Then, after the state and federal taxes devour another 41% plus (being a non-U.S. citizen) I'd probably be left with a little over 60 mil. What would I do with it? Make sure my immediate family is taken care of - stick a few mil away in the bank and give away the rest to the poor and needy through enterprises or charities that I know really help them. To be honest, I really don't like money to

$220M Mega Millions lottery jackpot advice offered
Who cares what 'they' (the state lottery commission) want you to do. I don't really see the point in investing the lottery money you win (talking about many millions of dollars type winnings). You've already made more than a reasonable person could expect to spend in a lifetime. Its pretty much just a matter of making sure you don't spend it all in the first 5 years.
That's why an annuity has its advantages.

Mega Millions 2008
Well the first option is already wrong. Big question is if it can break 200M in cash (currently 330M annuity) and I say no. I'm guessing the current run will last until Friday when the jackpot is around 280. I might get tickets this time though since I doubt it will even roll once more.
If it rolls twice it will surpass the old record of $370 but I seriously doubt that's going to happen.
