$700 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot raised just hours after initial estimate
It's odd . I don't know if anyone else notice , but when the jackpots got huge a few years ago , there was something like 30 pages of comments about it.. And it was only 300 to 500 million for the jackpot.. I just wonder if a lot of people are not playing anymore..

$700 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot raised just hours after initial estimate
Nah, that kills the appeal. There are smaller jackpots for that. Also would kill sales as they do not want that many people becoming millionaires so they keep playing. It would be good but winning almost a billion dollars would be MUCH better and generates way more buzz and sales. There are already tons of lower jackpot games. I would not complain with a 2nd prize in the several millions but the $700 million is what makes me want to play as I already play other games with those smaller amounts.

$400 MILLION: Powerball jackpot surges on rollover
With 54 million tickets sold, the chances of having a jackpot winner was around 20%, but sales were slightly higher than the last two $300 million plus jackpots. As you said historically jackpot frenzy usually starts at $400 million, but sales need to double to get a 50% chance of a jackpot winner.

$400 MILLION: Powerball jackpot surges on rollover
7th-largest cash value in US history
By Todd Northrop
This week Powerball will be the hot ticket, featuring a jackpot larger than any other United States lottery drawing in almost a year.
The new high-water mark of $400 million for the current Powerball jackpot was achieved after no winning tickets were sold for Saturday night's $355.8 million grand prize.
The lump-sum cash payout value of Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is $244.8 million the 7th-largest ever recorded in United States

$334 MILLION: Powerball jackpot rolls into the new year
I think Maryland has had a good piece of that pie. If you look back at Todd's original story you will see in the top 25 jackpots Maryland took spots #1, #8 and #21.
Happy New Year!

$334 MILLION: Powerball jackpot rolls into the new year
By Todd Northrop
This Saturday, lottery players will have the chance to buy tickets for the largest Powerball jackpot of the year.
Of course, it's also the first Powerball jackpot of the year.
Kidding aside, when nobody won last night's $301.8 million jackpot, the new Powerball jackpot estimate for Sat., Jan. 2, grew to $334 million, which is the largest jackpot for the popular multi-state game since Feb. 2015.
The lump-sum cash payout value of Saturday's Powerball jackpot is $205 mi

$300 MILLION: Massive Powerball jackpot fuels New Year's dreams
Most states lotteries have jackpots of $10-$20M with odds of 1:16M or better. Ohio has Classic Lotto(6/49) with a jackpot of $17M for $1 and Lucky for Life(5/48+1/18) with a jackpot of $1000 a day for life for $2.
Like you, there are those who wonders why others wouldn't spend a dollar for a 1:1000 chance to win $500 with a pick3 ticket.

New York instant scratch off tickets - new tickets with less odds to win
The new prize structures are done this way because they know people will still buy them.
I am done with NYS scratch offs until they come out with more For Life games. I'll stick with Mega and PB when the jackpots are over 100 million.

Let me get this straight. The Lotter allows people from all over the globe to play USA lottos?
It's not the first time a foreign national including Canadians won lottery prizes over $25,000. The IRS regulations require that 30% is deducted for Federal taxes and of course state taxes are deducted off the top too.
The best way to keep Canadians, Mexicans, and any other foreign nationals from winning US jackpots is Don't sell them tickets .
