Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
We're closing in on $180 milion in sales. I'm going to have to forget probability and just cross my fingers that it rolls. This roll has seen more than a 60% jump in sales over the previous jackpot, and a similar increase for another roll would mean a single winner would also be a matter of luck rather than probability.
FWIW, a similar jump in sales would push the annuity value to about 525 and the cash to about 310.

The odds of both neither, just one.
Actually Euromillions had an expected value of 3. No income tax in Europe on lottery prizes and a cash prize of 230 million with odds of only 76 million.
For Megamillions to equal one it has to have a cash prize of 270.5 million and an annuity of around 466 million in a state without income tax on lottery winnings. Of course this only holds true if the income tax is 35%. The amount would go much higher if income tax goes up and much lower if DC shows some brains and drops federal income tax

Powerball or MegaMillions which will grow to 300+million
KY Floyd...how did you determine your estimated sales figure of $108 million?
I agree the next jackpot would be around $325 million with an cash value around $191 million. It would be very interesting to see if the Mega Millions folks would promote this largest ever US cash jackpot. I think they will not take this route, too confusing to the mass market and $325 million is a very impressive number, even though it is annuity based.

Record Jackpots excluding current Mega
Powerball should not be able to hold the title of the highest jackpot in US lottery history . The comparison between different jackpots should always be made according to the cash value. Tomorrow, Powerball will offer their annuity paid out in 40 years and will have a record jackpot of $500 million. Would that really be the highest jackpot of all time?
P.S. Their $340 million jackpot barely made the top 10.

Powerball or MegaMillions which will grow to 300+million
Hate to bust your bubble...looks like we're going to be sharing this jackpot as I will win Mega tonight. Truthfully, I don't care what the jackpot prize amount is...$12 million is still $12 million more than I currently have just as $216 million is $127 million I will have tonight (or actually tomorrow after I drive down to Springfield to claim the jackpot!)!
Oh BTW, that wasn't an error in division or typography...I only indicated that I would take the cash value and not the annuity.

Cancer victim struggles to get $1 million lottery prize in lump sum
Considering that it's his money he should just be able to sell the annuity. There are plenty of firms that buy annuities. After taxes though it's way less than $400k. Most jackpot games only have an after tax payout in the 25 - 33% range.
If he wants the actual jackpot he'll have to try his luck in Canada or Europe.

Mega Millions lottery jackpot increased to $216 million
The results for each individual drawing can vary from what probability suggests, but the number of winners is related to the number of tickets that are sold. We should only expect an average number of winners if ticket sales for that drawing are also average. For the last draw the estimated annuity went from 150 to 177 million which would mean sales of about 52 million tickets, which is a lot higher than usual. The odds against matching 5+0 are about 4 million to 1, so 52 million tickets woul

Indiana Lottery sell-off advances in state Senate
I have yet to make up my mind whether state lotteries should be sold, probably because it hasn't happened yet in the US. Connecticut's AFAIK is partly run by the private sector.
Maybe NY should sell its lottery except for its VLTs (Monticello, Yonkers, soon to be Aqueduct, etc). Perhaps there would be an increase in the Blotto payout percentage, and an end to annuity-only scratches.
