Annuity vs. Cash Analysis
Of course, when deciding on cash vs annuity just perhaps things like the Mayan prophecy about 12-21-2012 should be considered. Google that one, Mayans + 12-21-2012

$55 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot claimed by immigrant couple
Something is strange about this story. (Note: Washington has no income tax on lottery winnings) On Monday, they were given an initial check for $1.59 million. (Note: this is the correct amount for the first year annuity payment; $55M divided by 26 years allowing for 25% federal witholding.) The couple opted for the lump-sum payment option which, after taxes, would be about $23 million, said Liz Anderson, a spokeswoman for the Washington Lottery. (Note: the $23 million number is

Euromillions: How i feel
I think he's confused on both how prizes and lotteries work. Sales dictate possible prizes so sales would have to be in the hundreds of millions to support a starting pot of $200 million. That would be like saying Powerball should start at the 390 million cap. In other words just plain illogical. Also he seems to think that a 315 million annuity is more than 200 million in cash. Also he asks the ticket price be raised to $2 US when the tickets are already $2.50 US or more in the UK.

Anyone hate a certain lottery game?
1. Any game that is annuity-only. This includes the online game Lose for Life; while it has a cash option in VA, it's for only 10 years' worth of quarterly payments. 2. NY Lotto, the world's biggest ripoff, as the prize pool is only 38%-40% of sales.

Ridiculously low non-jackpot prize payouts have me fed up
Has there been any organized pressure against MM (or PB) to give some more respectible non-jackpot prize payouts? MM's 4+0 pre-tax payout is less than 1% of the odds. So this gets me thinking... If MM intends to keep my interest in their game, they must increase the non-jackpot prize payouts to a minimum 10% of the odds. The current odds, payouts (where applicable) and percentage of payout are as follows: 5+1 1:175,711,536.00 $JACKPOT 5+0 1: 3,904,700.80 $250,000 6.40%

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
It depends on what you mean by a long string of low level wins and a large jackpot. There are several ways to interpret your question, and I will give you just one based on recent events. Between April 21 and August 1 of this year, we had a string of runs in which the jackpot never passed $100M in advertised annuity value. The lengths of the runs in this period were 8 (about average) followed by below average length runs of 5, 4, 3, 6 and 4 draws. Working from my modeling program,

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
Just hardly half-kididng about being tough to live on 1 million a year for 29 years. Most people quickly get used to their income. Having $1 million a year is great for the year or three, but then you start noticing that the docking fees on your yacht keep going up. The cost of a new Rolls-Royce has continued to rise. Your service staff keeps wanting raises. Those monthly trips to Europe keep rising with higher first class costs and luxury suite costs. Without an inflationary increase in y

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
Todd...how would one find the postings by Chuck Strutt regarding how MUSL calculates the annuity? Also is it right to believe that Mega Millions would follow a similar procedure?

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
I agree, guesser. The annuity payment is such baloney, since he got less than 1/2 of the jackpot. At least he should have received $7.5 or $8 million. In FL most of the Lotto jackpots are paid at 55% or more, so that would be around $8.2M here. Also, I always read that people take home much more than I calculate. Federal tax can be as high as 35%. I'm not sure if Kansas has a state tax. So I figure after all taxes are paid, he'll really only have between $4 - $4.5M. I agree it's a heck of a

a poll about annuities and lump sum
If you won the lottery would you spend every penny of annual income every year? I don't know about you, but I'm planning on living for more than another 26 years, so I'm expecting to need an income 27 or 30 years down the road. Using your example I could take the cash, pay the taxes, and have an annual after-tax income of over 500 grand a year. Actually, I'd be getting close to 600 grand, because I wouldn't spend the rest of my life in a state that takes 9%. Even if I spent every penny of it,
