A rough idea of what the loss of NJ will mean to MM.
We have lost our lottery here in New Jersey in the struggle over our budget.
I question whether cutting a source of revenue is a good idea under the circumstances (will New Jersey stop collecting taxes?) but I do understand that we need to dramatically reassess how we pay for our government here. It is painful but necessary.
In any case, I hae made a rough calculation of how the two factors continue to weigh down the MM jackpot growth will play out. New Jersey will be eliminated from

Mass. Megabucks Improvements.
And yet another unlucky winner again on Wednesday (6/28) - at least as the sole winner'(?) they get the full annuity ($20K/20, yay)...
Maybe they should just give this one away to charity.

Powerball cash option
Quote: Originally posted by KY Floyd on June 27, 2006 Quote: Originally posted by rundown99 on June 25, 2006 Have you noticed that the cash option on the advertised jackpot for Powerball has decreased. Right now the cash option for the $28 Million Powerball jackpot is only $12.6 Million !!! The cash option used to be at least 50% of what they advertised. What is going on? Somebody please explain this to me!!!
There is no cash option. The cash from ticket sales is, and always has been, wh

Mass. Megabucks Improvements.
Ok, now I'm not usually one to complain about this game. In fact, I like this game, but when I saw that two people had to split the starting jackpot at this game, I thought that was bullcrap. Think about it. They split a $400,000 annuity. They get $200,000 in 20 annual installments. That's a mere $10,000 a year before taxes. I really think that this game needs improving. What do you think is the best way though?

State lotteries and us, the players.
NYers are the stupidest lottery players in the US if not the world. They (not me) don't give a dam about NY Lotto's 38%-40% payout or its annuity-only scratches.
Which is more stupid? -- driving 100 miles and paying over $25 for gas (roundtrip) for a few $1 tickets or just buying tickets at your local convenience store, hoping you'll win 40%? if I lived in New York, I'd choose the latter and I'm not stupid.

Clash over $1 million lottery ticket outlives buyer
That's why there should be NO such thing as an annuity-only game. TWO deaths are involved.
Jack Whitaker took the cash-only, his granddaughter died.

3) Will this agreement stand up in court if contested?
Also make sure the group chooses LUMP SUM. Most likely they would make the choice after winning, but here in NY Mega

Any LP Hall of Shame should also include lottery winners who chose annuity. My 2 cents.

Cash Only
The reason for this poll is to continue the never-ending debate about cash and annuity. Do you ever get tired of the debate or do you truely have no life?

Lawsuit over $315 million lottery jackpot goes to trial
What on earth does that have to do with this thread?
To me it just illustrates why the only pool I will play in will be in the large house I get if I win a large PB/MM/Euro pot. Playing with money like this only invites lawsuits and no one gets a dime of the money for years except the lawyers. The winners may get the annuity by default after the lawsuits are settled either way.
