NY has numerous scratch games (including FOUR versions of Debt for Life) that are annuity-only. I would also avoid NY Lotto because the payback % is terrible.

Strategies, sustems, techniques, or luck?
What difference is there on how many played a QP or selected a number and then lost? Equal, unequal? 50%? 90%? 10%? What counts, is the number of winners that chose QP not the number of winners that didn't. Counting losers only tells you there were a lot of losers. I figured that out when I saw the $300M annuity. That is a lot of losers. Doesn't matter. Only the winner counts. They chose QP 75 to 80% of the time.

$267 million Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Ohio
All the winner sees is the money. They realize they can get a larger some today, then receiving a lot of smalled sums that actually add up to a larger sum. They do not avoid any games. The fact that the states makes money proves you wrong. If the state lost money, it would go away. Lottery players, for the most part, don't even know it is annuity or cash until they try to collect. They are sheep, standing line to be sheared. See money advertised, want advertised money. Basic instinct.

Why GA-KY-VA Lose for Life will flop
I have to make the choice EVERY time I play Mega Millions in NY. NY still requires MM players to choose cash or annuity whenever they play.
BTW bad luck to all LOSE for Life players in GA, and maybe KY.

Last day for Lotto South
Maybe the term cash buyout was correct by not prohibiting an annuity purchasing company from doing a discounted buyout. Conjecture only until we see it in print because of the great potential in reporting errors.
The New York Lottery is apparently structured differently than Georgia which provides more flexibility as to how things are run, and that may be the difference in what you experienced and what we're seeing so far.

Mega Millions lottery jackpot increased to $256 million
The jackpot in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery grew to $256 million Saturday.
Hummm, notice how they NEVER mention that the promoted number is only valid if you choose annuity, and if the investment works out as planned! You are expected to read all the documents associated with the Mega Millions Lottery, plus all the documentation from the state you buy the ticket in. If the automobile industry fails, the advertisers will always have a future in the lottery industry.

Powerball lottery jackpot hits record $365 million
Only NY and Texas require the cash/annuity choice to be made when you play on its games.
Try across the creek - NJ requires a choice up front also. MM Pick 6.

winning ticket for powerball in Neb.
I've said it all along, do the math... Take the money and run. Taxes go up, they don't go down.... in thirty years the taxes could take another 10-15 % on top of what you're already being taxed. And as chewie has said, what if they do attack in massive locals, you can definately Kiss your annuity good-bye.!
Better to have pocket change , than no change in your pocket. Take the lump sum.

Well said Chewie except the annuity is 30 years now. (Which only serves to highlight your point.)

winning ticket for powerball in Neb.
When Whittaker won 314 million he got like 112 million after taxes. Why is the amount LOWER on a HIGHER jackpot? Have they changed the formula or the ratios? I think Mega did.
I would have taken the annuity.. I don't see how about 500K clear a month for 20-something years is not enough to live on.
