Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Yes, the record jump is as you stated Prob988 - $133 million in May 2000.Unfortunately we cannot know for certain if that jump was entirely based on sales or was it partially based on the poor estimate of the $230 million jackpot. I have noticed that Mega Millions (and Big Game) never adjusted their estimates after the draw to the actual value based upon sales. Therefore the $230 million jackpot may have grown to say $263 million by the time of the draw. Under this case, the jump was only $100 m

Triple 6 has changed for the better. It's now easier to win, and cheaper to play. You now get 3 lines for $1, and you can pick your numbers for each of them. PA Unlucky for Life
Cash you should give it a rest man. You don't like annuity payouts, we get it already! No one is forcing you to be a loser for life. Personally I would be happy with the lifetime prize, I don't need a lump sum to be happy. True I may be happier much more quickly, but hey what can I say, I am not greedy. I am sure there would be a lot of people out there happy to be 'losers for life' by your definition of term. You don't like them types of lotteries, well you stick to the larger jackpots wit

PA Unlucky for Life
If they want people to play, they got to offer enough money for someone to be really set for life. $3,000/month, or even $1,000/week won't cut it, especially with taxes. You've got to offer at least $2,500/week ($130,000/year) for it to really be appealing. And a cash option is a must seeing that there are a lot of older people playing, and a lifetime annuity wouldn't be practical for them. How about this idea for a revamp?Pick 6 from 47.Instant Win Removed.Still $2. Prize Odds Match 6 $4,000/we

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
I have played with some numbers again, and modeled the current MM run using a linear extrapolation of the previous run to try to model what a very large run might look like starting from where we are now. The first column is the size of the advertised annuity jackpots we would see (obviously they're too precise) The second colum gives the odds that jackpot of that size would rollover again. The third column gives the probability that all the jackpots, including that one would rollover. Thus w

Tax Free Dollar Lotto Is Big Again
I admit I also have a taste in selecting numbers similar to that of Chewie. Site QPs partly changed by my feel and knowledge, if any. While I like MM and PB standing at huge jackpot, I think that Euro Millions with 3 or more rollovers can be compared only to UK Lotto 6/49's occasional rollover draws or its once-in-a-while Superdraws, hopefully with an additional rollover, when overall odds and amount of low-tier prizes are taken into consideration. Even when the price is considered, I believe it

Charlotte wants limits on N.C. lottery sales
North Carolina leaders aren't ignorant, just misguided. Some years ago Ohio had some misguided people that convinced the State that the chance to to win large lottery jackpots was a bad thing and the State for a few months adopted a law that limited the amount that one lottery ticket could win to $20M annuity. At the time people from the surrounding states played the Ohio lottery and jackpots of $40M-$70M were common. After that, the jackpot amounts were lucky to reach $15M and the law was elim

Oregon businessman has record Powerball lottery ticket
The 25% figure is not a marketing term, it is a rule set by the Federal Government. Most people will owe additional money in taxes, although it depends on how you disperse your prize. For example, if you give large amounts to some kind of tax-deductable organization, then you may not owe anything more, or you may get something back. Also, those who choose the cash option pay more in taxes, because there is much more money that falls within the highest tax bracket. Those who choose annuity get
