Said & done before but ...
I think the three biggest factors are (1) your age, (2) the size of the jackpot, and (3) your ability to handle money. If you can be honest with yourself, and the handling of large sums of money is beyond your ability to do well, then the annuity can be an excellent option. In that case, do not listen to people who say that if you don't choose cash you're a moron. You should congratulate yourself that you have the discipline and ability to look within and understand your own weaknesses. For me,

Officially, no claim on Powerball jackpot
http://www.powerball.com/Record $340 Million Ticket Sold in Oregon! The small town of Jacksonville (population 1,955) located in southwest Oregon lays claim to having sold the single winning ticket for the record breaking $340 million Powerball jackpot. The ticket was sold at one of only two Powerball retailers in the city: Ray's Food Place or the Jacksonville Tavern. No one has stepped forward yet to claim the prize, but when they do they will have to decide on the 29-year, 30-payment annuity,

Second-largest lottery jackpot in US history won
Looks to me like you spend 2/3rd's of your life thinking about doom and gloom. It comes through in your responses as loud as a bell. I spend most of my life working on ways to improve it. Guess what? It works. Lotteries are just amusement for me. Yes, I wager a few bucks just to be in the game. If I'm fortunate enough to win a jackpot or a major prize someday, I'll just count my blessings rather than wringing my hands about annuity versus cash or whether the lottery powers that be are screwing m

If there was no cap.....
If there was no cap the cash option would have been 164.4 million plus 32 million that was given to the bonus for matching five numbers. That means the cash option would have been 196.4 million. Translate that to an annuity figure for Powerball and they jackpot would have been greater than $400,000,000. That would have been some type or record. The first $400 million jackpot. But to bad they decided to go it a different way.Brad

Maybe I'm naive but....
You don't hear the echo because you don't WANT to hear the echo.Choosing not to understand statistical analysis is just ignorant.Choosing not to TRY to undestand is clearly STUPID !!!I have no doubt your ...stats on the prediction board... are superior to mine as I have NEVER made any predictions and never will.I limit the scope of my comments to FACTS; a concept that appears to be foreign to both the ignorant and the stupid. (I'm hearing that echo again).Perhaps you can explain to me how a

Powerball lottery madness spreads to big media
To bad they don't let people take half the cash and half in an annuity. This way one could have the best of both worlds. Then again if a person won he/she could set up an account to do the same thing just about. I don't know why people go through or bother to worry about what the payments are/would be. If you actually won you wouldn't give a rats _ _ _ one way or another. Just the fact that you won should satisfy your ambitions for all future endeavors That knuckle head from Kentucky who won sai

Powerball lottery madness spreads to big media
Todd wrote:>> For the millionth time, the record is not based on the cash option. >> Somebody help me.There isn't any reliable help available. The annuity is based on the cash that's available, so that's the only legitimate basis . You and MUSL can repeat your claim as many times as you like, but it won't change the reality. When Jack Whittaker won there was $170 million dollars to give away and this time there's only $165 million. That's not a record to anyone with a wit of sense,

Is a 400 million jackpot possible?
ryanm, if that was the case, I think both games would be in one heaping bunch of trouble! I wouldn't think it could be called a lottery then with such high odds stacked against all of us who play the lottery! Look with such high odds it could happen or it couldn't, no one really knows what could happen with this new matrix and I would have hoped they would have taken that into consideration when they changed it!They would not have been able to change the matrix the way they did without the appro

Is Match 5 Bonus Prize a BIG MISTAKE ??
Lets get clear on the simple purpose of any lottery- its to generate funds.Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that lotteries deserve the right to promote just as well as any marketing business. Its called Free Enterprise for a reason here in the USA.It is better to feed a few then to feed just one- so I stick with the idea setforth on the *share the winnings* bonus Match 5 idea. I'd be glad to share 15 million with 6 or 7 other ticket holders! And this might break your heart but they a
