Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
You're welcome. As was the case with the recent MM run-up, we are entering a new area, because the odds have changed. But a crude estimate assuming sales from late May of this year when the jackpot hit $220 million, I'd estimate that the probability of a $300M prize would take three more rollovers, with an overall probability of around 30-35%.Keep in mind though that a $300+ plus jackpot may not be equivalent to what Jack Whittaker won. Besides lengthening the odds, Powerball has messed with

What lottery game is better?
thats the reason i quit posting polls and questions.some of the members that have been here longer have a hard time understanding that there are many new members and that some questions and polls might seem fresh to the newer members while some of the ones who have been here awhile raise a fuss because they think its been run in the ground.if you do a SEARCH on here in the upper right hand corner you'll find lots of polls i've done and of course the one subject that always comes up by senior mem

This Game Might Just Be Perfect
O.K. You thought that was nice, how about this.Whenever the jackpot hits $20 million annuity value, and theres no winner, the jackpot winfalls. The jackpot would be divided evenly among the 4 lower prize tiers. Regular Prize Avg. Winfall Prize Match 7 Jackpot N/A Match 6 $1,500 $156,827 Match 5 $50 $2,550 Match 4 $5 $115 Match 3 $1 $11 These would'nt come up very often, but to me, it can be just as exciting as a $300M jackpot. I mean, $11 being the lowest prize in a game with 1 in 10 overall odd

How high will Powerball get this run?
I don't think PB with the new matrix will break the 250 million dollar mark this year! I hope I'm wrong. The new payout for the cash option has many people upset (me included). To payout less than 50% on the cash option isn't right! It has to be a conspiracy by the MUSL and the states that participate in the PB drawings to get more of the people to take the annuity over the cash pay-out! And how can you get them to do just that, make the cash pay-out less than 50% of the anuity pay-out! I would

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
It appears that the MM sold somewhat less well than anticipated for the $250 million jackpot, actual sales coming in at an estimated $90M.The actual outcome, 1 winner, was actually not the most probable outcome, which would have been another rollover. The probability distribution for the number of winners looked like this: 059.92%130.69%27.86%31.34%40.17%50.02%If the MM sells what it did at the last $12M starter jackpot, roughly 14.5M, the winner probability distribution will now look like this

For Mega Millions winner, the moon's the limit
You are completely off. When they say approx. 50% of every dollar wagered goes back to the players, they are talking about the amount of money (from the total sales) they assign to pay all the different prize levels including the jackpot. Only 31.8% of every sales dollar is assigned for the jackpot. As far as the cash value goes, if the jackpot is $250 million like it is tonight the cash value is around $153 million (around 61% of annuity) not 51% of $250 million. Mega Millions lottery jackpot to be a quarter-billion for Friday
> The government (state, local or Federal) could change the tax rate on winnings and you could be out many millions more.Yes, for this reason and other reasons I would take the cash. Even if it is proven I would make more with the annuity, this would make it a one time dealing with the state and fed/state taxes, then I would be free.Just for fun, if you had the $107 million cash after taxes and put $57 million of that in a vault as cash and invested $50 million at 3.3% (the current ING direct

Do you buy few tickets each time or wait?
Normally I buy three ticket sets; Each set has one QP and one with my number. I go to three stores and spend $2.00 in each store; hoping to get a diversified QP from three machines. I tend to buy two drawings each time I buy. For this week, I bought an additional $5.00 block in NJ and a second block for $5.00 in NY, two with my numbers, three with QP. As I mentioned in a different thread, in NJ NY, you have to choose annuity or cash when you buy the ticket; I always choose cash. I would rath

Mega Millions lottery jackpot to be a quarter-billion for Friday
Call me crazy, but I think $6.8 million per year (after taxes in Michigan) is enough to make me happy. And the bonus is that I get the security of knowing that I will get that amount every year for the next 26 years. Sure I could take the $108 mil now, but what if I make bad investments? I know nothing about the financial markets, and I don't know anyone who does, so any financial advisor or stockbroker I hire could be out for his or her own gain and there to screw me over, so I might not even r

next mm hit
I don't see that California made any major impact in getting to $200M (annuity), and I don't think it going to make a major impact until, maybe a week from Friday. The first time through, those in California thought, because of the hype, they were going to be the winner. They soon found out that spending more monet doesn't mean a thing.I figure it will be at the $300M+ for a week from Firday. Katrina will be history (bush will screw something else up, so the press will have a new folly), and peo
