Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
Your calculations would be correct if 13 million tickets were sold. Actually the minimum $10,000,000 jackpots typically sell in the ten million range. You can look up sales in various places, and find them from time to time. I back calculate sales by dividing the number of winning tickets by the overall odds of winning. This (understandably) gives a high standard deviation, however if you do it long enough, you find that the mean converges on the correct (cash) value, roughly 32% of sales de

MEGA MILLIONS climbs to $222 Million
I dont think lottery winnings should be taxed, its not working pay as you would get each week from your job. Your right, you will be taxed regardless if you take the cash option or the annuity payments. If you took the cash, you would get half which is $136 million, without tax deduction. You will get half of the $136 million you won, out of $236 million, in Michigan, it would be around $98 million Dollars out of $236. Huge cut ! That is almost $100 million in taxes.

MEGA MILLIONS climbs to $222 Million
Quote: Originally posted by Kristin on February 19, 2004 I, for one, am going to take it all if I ever happen to win. I am only 23 years old, so I will be taking it all, I can live 26 good years with the whole jackpot in my pocket! You get roughly $92 million dollars out of $222 million, I think its kind of crazy to give the government that much money. I know, that I can live off of 8 million a year. I hardly make that now and I am sure I wont make that in my life time now.Its nice to see someo

Mega Millions Jackpot Raised to $222 Million
As of 11:30 a.m. today, lottery officials for the Mega Millions game announced that -- due to solid ticket sales -- the estimated jackpot for Friday, February 20 has been increased to $222 million. If one winning ticket matches all six numbers in Friday night's drawing and the player has selected annuity payments over 26 years, the $222 million jackpot would amount to pre-tax payments of roughly:$8.5 million per year,$164,200 per week, or,$23,450 per day.For those who prefer to take their cash wi

There is roughly a 19% chance there will be one winner, a 2% chance there will be two winners, a 0.18% chance of three winners, and a 0.01% chance of there being four winners.A crude estim

well thanks for your insulting replies.1.yes you are taking wild guesses at what the sales figures are. sales have fluctuated allot lately at the 100 + million mark. even megamillions and powerball don't know them and have to guess on the conservative side they later will increase the jackpot based on tickets sold and whatever they can get an annuity at the time.2.where are these figures on rising pots and % of quickpick. i'll tell you where - in your head (or ass since they are assumptions) sin

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
Last night, 2/13/04, the Megamillions jackpot rolled again and the jackpot is now $177 million dollars. The estimated increase in the Jackpot is 26 million annuity dollars. This suggests that the odds of the jackpot rolling over yet again are 72%, the odds of there being one winner are 24%, the odds of their being two winners are about 4%, three winners, 0.5%, and four winners 0.03%.The increase in the jackpot estimated is actually less than what was predicted for the previous $150 million d

match 6 first draw tonight
Agree, Cash 5. and SMD.By the way, there was a good story in our local paper Tuesday (I said this on another line) about taking the cash. That annuity investment that is paid by the state probably represents an interest rate of about 2-3 %. Geez, my checking account pays better interest than that. But pay tax on the interest? I don't know. Still probably woud take the cash as you always say. Payoff that house, car, college, etc. etc. Invest, for retirement. Live off the interest. THEN T
