I think we'll see jackpot deja vu if Powerball is not won Saturday. It was almost at the exact same time last year that Mega Millions set the record $651 million advertised jackpot. Powerball could easily reach that if it is not won Saturday, and it could even possibly take over the record cash jackpot of $474 million as well.

Speaking of jackpot sizes, Mega Millions once again fails to reach $100 million. It had one winner tonight in New Jersey. Last year, it set a record high jackpot; now, it is trying to set a record for how long the jackpot can stay under $100 million.

It would be very cool if the current Mega Millions run ended with another record jackpot. At the rate it's rolling now, it would probably reach a new record by the May 29th drawing.

My math might be off some but to get to $600 million i think it would take about $500 million in sales to get there. For Tuedays drawing there was almost $191 million in sales. The record for sales is $230 million for the Jan 3 2011 drawing. A new record in sales will take place for this drawing im sure. Hard to tell how much will be spent on this drawing.

This is the first run that is going to be all $2 tickets so we will reach $300 million faster than this last run of $336 million. The cash jackpot for next Wednesday will probably be a record US cash jackpot if it is not won on Saturday as well. As far as I know, the record cash jackpot is $240 million, which is currently held by Mega Millions, when it had an annuity jackpot of $370 million.
