Mega Millions lottery game's redesign aims at bigger jackpots, better overall odds
Yep, you probably can't judge how well the new MM game will do based on the more informed subset of responses of LP members.
This change has more to do with psychology than it does with statistics. Giving more money and more winners to lower tier prizes to provide encouragement, pumping up the megaplier to a juicy $5M to entice more megaplier sales. While there will be fewer winning jackpots per year, most people won't care.

Do you generally play both major jackpots regardless of the amount?
Do you generally play both major jackpots regardless of the amount?
I do! My achievable aim is to hit the second prize with a megaplier/powerplay. The odds of that is 1 in 3,904,701 for MM and 1 in 5,153,623.65 for PB. Not bad. Compare those odds with the odds of hitting the local 6/49; 1 in 13,983,816. == very tough odds.

Price and prize changes coming this Sunday for Illinois Lotto
One change that I think went unnoticed is that prior to 2013, Lotto jackpots had increased by increments of $250,000. But now the increases per rollover have only been $150,000. Now Illinois Lotto is just like Hoosier and Ohio Classic Lotto, 1 play per buck. Now let's see if the jackpot climbs like Ohio's. I do like the shift from Wednesday to Thursday as that move means I can have a hope and a dream everyday of the week, with Sunday being my day to dream of what I would do with the highest jack

NY Take 5
Very good info thanks for sharing! I actually bought a Gail Howard book the other day just for a read Lottery Master Guide figured it might give me some tips I havent read about yet. I only play $2 a day in the take 5. But I do try to keep my picks balanced 2even 3 odd or 3 even 2odd. Also try to keep a good balance of low and high numbers as well as try to keep my total sum of all numbers in the 85% range. I always play the same numbers and havent won much more than a qp here and there. I see C

Has there been a study as to whether there have been or are more Female JP winners than Males?
This raises an interesting dilemma. If more women than men win the jackpots and we (a man) play the lottery all the time, chart it, study it etc., and our wives or girl friends could care less about it, which person should pick the numbers?
Do we rely on research or female intuition?

Why do left-handed Americans rarely win big jackpots?
I read where three of last four Presidents were left-handed, but when I tried to check the overall percentage, it was unknown because before the 20th century, teachers taught the lefty's to use their right hand.
I thought about asking why skinny people rarely win jackpots, but then I couldn't remember the last time a saw a skinny person.

why do black americans rarely win big jackpots
and I never see any midgets winning the lottery
Only because nobody took Pumpi's suggestion to offer free lotteries for midgets serious. But someone would start a thread Why do midgets living in New Jersey win most of the jackpots? and say the game is rigged.

Can MM & PB Start Being Honest? Must this farce continue?
In which other type of gambling win would this be okay to anyone?
Have you ever read the fine print on the large jackpot slot machines or some of the Caribbean Stud jackpots?
The people who win a $5M house aren't given an option of a 500K house if they want the house now or they can own parts of the house, once a year, until they get the full $5M house at the end of 30 years.
A little late to be changing the subject trying to compare apples to oranges. Besides those raffles usually

Mega Millions multi-state lottery to get harder to win in Oct.
85MM higher odds? LOL We rarely play MM now, and once these increased odds take place I suspect will quit playing altogether.
It's interesting how the current odds for the MM and PB jackpots are nearly identical and few people ever win. Two lines on MM cost the same as one line on PB, yet the cash value for PB jackpots is always 9 to 12% lower than the proportional cash vlaue for MM. It's something I've tracked since January 2011. When thinking about these proportional differences in the con
