TOPIC: If you ever won the Powerball....
hmmm... that's a good point. The laws would definitely not swing in the winner's favor...that would be $29,000,000 for Wednesday's $87,000,000 jackpot (after taxes)... $27,250,000 more than the first annuity payment... If I budget myself... LOLI believe I am starting to understand the theory behind the lump sum advantage... I could then collect the interest and be in charge of my own investments on it...One question, where would you put it? a $1,000,000 payment could be split up between 10 accou

NY Take 5 CINCO DE MAYO/bonus ball
While I am very critical of the NY Lottery forcing some big winners to receive annuity payments, they will be doing something very positive: trying a five day promotion with the still-popular 5/39 TAKE FIVE game. From Monday 5/5 until Friday 5/9, the NY Lottery will be drawing an EXTRA Take Five number, after the five regular numbers are drawn. There will be EIGHT prize levels, the four additional prizes will be 4+B, 3+B, 2+B, and 1+B. Three of the four extra levels will be funded by unclaimed pri

A Great Great Story
Hey VisionDude, I understand where your coming from but I disagree because you can have Legal documents drawn up that state where you want your annual payments too go in case of sudden death. In my case I would start with my sister who's younger then my wife if I'm married at the time and finally my son who would recieve payments at age 21.And as for your friend that was very unfortunate but believe it or not it is possible too know when your going to kick the bucket I studied certain things per

Michigan reveals another $20 tomorrow
I am kind of depressed. This time the $2,000,000 top prize in the game is given as a 20 year annuity. First time this has happened:(. You are still allowed to collect the lump sum though. But why did they start doing this for. The last 2 $2,000,000 top prizes were paid in full. Ticket is pretty fun though. Bought one tonight. Lots to do on it!Brad

Mega Millions getting boring
Mega Millions will be a year old in May (when Ohio and NY joined the Big Game group.)The long jackpot odds and expanded player pool fueled speculation (including on this website) that a $500 million jackpot was inevitable. However, there has yet to be a $200 million MM jackpot (despite a $330+ million Big Game prize the month before MM began.)I propose a new version of Mega Millions to take effect immediately after Labor Day: **5/55 + 1/49 (longer jackpot odds, but overall chance of winning be

Quinto Selections....Wednesday
Everett: My #1 pet peeve about US lotteries is the cash/annuity issue (hence the handle CASH Only .) However, I am very opinionated on how the different US lotto-type games compare to each other. IMO the Washington State Lottery is not living up to its potential as long as their pick-5 game consists of playing cards instead of numbers. No other US computerized lottery game has lasted nearly as long where the winning combinations are NOT all numbers. Tell me why CA Decco , NJ 5 Card Lotto , PA

Annuity's Thoughts - Feb 7th
Once again, it's the big draw tonight. Millions of tickets will be purchased, will there be a jackpot winner. Last time, I believe 17 matched all 5 #s. Not too shabby. I'm proud to say New Yorkers kick ass! I believe we had 8. Go New York, Go New York. Hopefully, we'll get the big one. And I hope it's one from NYC, cause that's where the real NYers are from. Let's give it up for Mayor Bloomberg.Don't forget to Choose Annuity - It's just the natural thing to do.

Extra paperwork?
the rock says that you haved really touched on something cashonly that the rock has been feeling for awhile and that is having to deal with a beaucracy and having to put up with people on a yearly basis who probably are incompetent, lazy, and just plain ignorant if one chooses to take an annuity. the rock says it is not worth the headach. just take the lump sum and run with the loot and not have to put up with the lottery every year and people like the rock has just mention. also you will be in c

Extra paperwork?
When somebody wins a large lottery prize, and that prize is paid through an annuity (whether or not a cash option was available) it creates EXTRA WORK for the lottery, because the lottery has to keep track of the winners' address, and someone has to remember to mail each installment to the proper address/PO box (and to make note if the winner gets a new address.) I would think this adds to a lottery's administrative costs (even if a tiny fraction.) I've lived in NY state all my life, and, I thin

therock has come back to lotterypost!
The Rock has moved to new York now so look for the winning ticket to come from Buffalo, New York. New York requires that the choice of annuity or cash/lump sum be made at the time of purchase but cashonly your peoples champion always choose cash/lump sum. The Rock says that, that lady in californiawas a real jabroni. Now she new that she was lying and had not had won that prize. Why did she put herself thruough all that embarrassment? Why does everyone want to be like The Rock? The Rock
