Scratch tickets are the most popular lottery games now (make sure there are NO annuity-only prizes!) There are no controversial pick-5 games. CityPicks is a game that probably won't be around a long time. I probably wouldn't mess around with it. Hot Lotto is a mini-Powerball game that I would like to see expand. You can play HL in Iowa, but you have to be 21 to buy Iowa tickets. Getting back to Powerball, you don't need to wait for a huge jackpot if you exercise the Powerplay option. Ove

Ohio SuperLotto...10/05/2002
RJOh: I'm sure all US lotteries want to sell as many tickets as (reasonably) possible. But it means having the courage to make sensible changes to (and sometimes overhauling) existing games as well as introducing new ones. With Ohio selling MM, there is no need to keep their 6/49 game as is, with or without the free play for three numbers. Eliminate the Kicker. Retire the bonus ball and go back to the 6/47 matrix. Pay $3 for three numbers, $60 if you match four numbers, and $2000 for five numb

V-DUDE : mr. quick-pick
I, too, find it rather odd that records of Big Game/Mega Millions winners aren't readily available. Although I seldom play Powerball, I do enjoy reading the Winners' Stories on the powerball.com website. The information includes the winner's name, where the ticket was purchased, quick pick or personal numbers, and annuity or cash option. Some winners chose to be anonymous, and one unknown winner even had their cash option put into a trust and a trustee picked up the winnings. Anyway, I find

To Powerball-Ohio 6/49 players
Cash Only: Many states do not advertise the cash value, but it has nothing to do with fluctuating interest rates! As I've said in the past, the cash value is the easiest thing for the State Lottery to calculate, because it is simply a function of how many tickets have been purchased. It is actually more difficult for the lottery to calculate the annuity value, since that involves fluctuating return rates, not the cash value.I believe many states do not advertise the cash value because of the n

New Powerball info available
Todd: I have no problem with lengthening the annuity, since all Powerball players don't have to worry about the choice unless they win. The extra four years will further discourage winners from taking the annual payments. As for leaving the lower-tier prizes as is, PB still pays better than MM if you win a small prize; often that money is put back into the game. Making 2x the smallest multiplier for the Power Play option also will help. I actually LIKE the bonus second prize, it allows non-jac

3/6 in PA Super-6 paid only $1.50
I don't think a free ticket for a 3/6 match in the Ohio 6/49 will do much good. The game needs to be overhauled, starting with the Kicker getting kicked out, then, a cut in the number field (maybe go back to the 6/47 format), and a money prize ($3 ?) for matching 3/6. Getting rid of the bonus ball would simplify the game. And, the Ohio Lottery should pay cash-option winners the actual retail value of the annuity prize, or make the jackpot LUMP SUM.

Mega Millions vs Ohio 6/49
Next MM jackpot: $17 million. Next Ohio 6/49 jackpot: $18 million. Approximate CASH VALUE of MM: $10.1 million; of Ohio 6/49: $7.9 million. That's right, the MM cash option is ~59 1/2% of the annuity, but the Ohio 6/49 cash value is _only_ 44%! (The four extra payments in the Ohio 6/49 DO NOT represent a true 15 1/2 percentage-point difference.) Michigan (Millions) and Pennsylvania (Super-6) are planning to replace their single-state jackpot games next year. Ohio needs a NEW game as well (ALL-CA

Never let lottery assign you an annuity
Dear littleoldlady: CA needs to change the rules so that the choice can be made AFTER you win. As for someone's life span, there is NO guarantee (always remember 9/11) that someone will live long enough to receive all their payments. What if she dies, and her heirs (grandchildren, etc) have to pay inheritance tax UP FRONT (within 10 months of the winner's death) on the future lottery payments, and they can't pay off the IRS bill ? People who want the annuity DON'T consider all the potential cons

Lottery player/winner advice ?
lottoinfopls, cash only was making a reference to 9/11 only to point out that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. we could die, we never know when. with annuity it takes 25 years (or so) to get your money. lump sum gives it to you NOW.there are wealthy men working in tall buildings. howard lutnick is the c.f.o of cantor fitzgerald. he was late to work that day (9/11) but he lost hundreds of his employee's at i think around the 84th floor of the world trade center. howard lutnick is worth mor

Att : Washington state lottery players
Wednesday is the first day of Mega Millions in the Pacific Northwest ! To all of you blowing your money on Lucky for Life (and even Quinto ), I would suggest buying Mega Millions tickets instead. ( L4L and its sibling game in Oregon, Win for Life , need to be retired, replaced, or modified so players can win a LUMP SUM instead of lifetime (annuity) payments. Quinto is a pick-5 game that uses PLAYING CARDS instead of numbers. Quinto should be overhauled to become an ALL-NUMBER game.) Now
