What Do You Think About The Current Mega Millions And Powerball Lottery Jackpots?
They guarantee at least $10M jumps. It went $14M. Apparently they sold enough tics that it warranted a $14M increase. It doesn't matter to me. Either way I retire IF I win it.

Anyone else find the jump in MM j/p surprising?
Actually, what WOULD make sense for Mega Millions, considering it's still $1 to play and that for any given ADVERTISED jackpot, the cash value is 25% higher than Powerball's, would be for the game to increase its opening jackpot to $16 million and have minimum increases of $4 million per draw (double its current minimum increases). That would make it the $1 low advertised jackpot: jackpot cash value equivalent of Powerball.

Powerball Vs Mega Millions
Oh yeah, I remember this happened to Powerball seven years ago this time. At the time, the opening jackpot was $10 million, and there were seven winners of jackpots $45 million in a three month span. However, after it ended, PB came back and rolled sixteen times to a jackpot of $220 million, which was a big deal at the time. Sixteen rolls of the current PB structure will put the game at a new record jackpot, as I highly doubt the pot will increase by only $10 million once it gets past five draws

Post Your Winning Tickets Here
I have never played the Megaplier or Powerplay. My wife tells me I should (mostly because she does), but I always think that extra dollar is better spent getting another chance on the JP (even though I know it doesn't increase my odds). I may try it in the future. You never know.

World's biggest lottery jackpot won by three tickets
Ok here is a question for you long time Lottery Post'ers... After a big jackpot has ended (like MM last night), does lottery play in general drop off or does it remain constant? That is something that has puzzled me. If I were horribly disappointed from over spending last night, do most just stop lottery play, thus 'hurting' the jackpots that are still in play? ( such as now a smaller group playing PB so its jackpot will increase slower?)

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
Because, sirbrad, different lottery companies run each game. Consequently, PB chose to increase annuity payment by 4% each 29 annual payments, yet MM chose to pay out each of their 26 annual annuity payments at the same amount each time. Note that both ways would require the winning receiver to pay the top Federal Income Tax Bracket each payment though.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
The Mega Millions jackpot analysis page shows the yearly payment on the left side. Unlike Powerball, Mega Millions doesn't progressively increase each year. Instead, it is divided over 26 years, each of which is an equal payment. So for Indiana, the yearly payment would be $14,870,769 after taxes.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
Which means it could most likely increase again Friday noon and one more before 3pm, and another one at 7pm. This could leave some room for them to pocket some few millions that were not included in the estimated value. Since it was not reported to the public.
