Rjoh, thank you for filling in the fact that your group was well to do prior. Not sure how your co workers had to end up paying out 55% in federal tax, but hey, they must of worked aLOT of overtime. In my state they pre-deduct the first 25% of federal so a person doesnt have to pay such high amounts ...So if your associates had to pay in 30% more for a jackpot claim after having the first 25% deducted,Id suggest getting a new accountant or finding a better calculator. Rjoh- Most pools that I have been a participant has a cut and dry method. Claimant puts cash winnings that exceed 600$ in the group bank account. 25% is automatically retained by the bank (at our request) and at the end of the year, the person who claimed the amount can withdraw for tax still due on that PART of the lottery amount.
