Will it hit $500 million by Friday night?
When California joined Mega Millions in 2007 there was a media blitz about $500,000,000 jackpots possible . Guess it took five years to get there.

$500 MILLION: Mega Millions sets all-time lottery jackpot record
Too bad half a billion is actually only about $375 million or less after taxes. Funny how we say only for that amount. The roll is not that big of a deal, it is all marketing. I would have never spent all of the original $365 million let alone another $100 million or more on top of it. So I really don't see what the excitement is about, just a lot more money to worry about. to me it is only exciting because it has never been this high before. But I would I have been ecstatic from $12 million on,

Standing behind people buying MM tickets..
I hate that too. Its usually some little old lady buying like $50 worth of tickets....and the jackpots don't even have to be high. I also HATE when people have like 30 numbers they want to play for Pick3/pick4.

$363 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised due to heavy sales
I wonder what the odds are that this thread will go on and on until someone wins, and then will die down immediately, with no jackpot winners at all in this thread who all walk away with their tails between their legs and are not seen again until the next $300 million jackpot? Based on the last 8 years of reading here I would say about 99.999999999999999999999%. Not bursting anyone's bubbles but that is simply reality as the past usually tends to repeat itself. Let's hope it doesn't as it is get

N.J. couple claims $70M Powerball jackpot
Some states mandate it. They claim it gives all players confidence that real people are winning the jackpots. I've always wondered what would happen if you lived in one of those states and refused to do the dog and pony show. Would they force you to forfeit the prize?

N.J. couple claims $70M Powerball jackpot
The 2/25/2012 $70M PB jackpot was won with an $8 Quick Pick Ticket. The winning combination was on the first line of the 4 lines ticket. Powerball is generating more jackpots winners than Mega millions since the new game matrix went in effect. Playing the lottery is a Win or Lose situation no matter how many tickets we buy. They spent $2 for a ticket and won $70M.

$356 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot nears record
My husband and I have never watched a MM or PB drawing. We buy our tickets when the jackpot gets big and check our numbers if FL or GA has a jackpot winner. If not, we just keep them in the nightstand and verify them once we have accumulated a small stack. We both realize the astronomical odds but still contribute a few dollars on these big jackpots...if we are lucky enough to hit so be it but if not life goes on

$356 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot nears record
Powerball has been a success because it is generating more winners than mega millions. 3 jackpots have been won since the new game matrix went in effect. I do not count the $336M won in Rhode island since it had tickets sales from the old game matrix. Powerball is making more millionaires the way they promised. $40M to $100M is a life changing jackpot. The 2/25/2012 $70M Powerball jackpot was won in NY with an $8 ticket.

Odd thing I heard from convenience clerk
The clerk told me that no major jackpots have been won on tickets with more than 3 lines on them, and by buying 5, 10 dollar tickets all on a single ticket, you decrease your odds of winning by 15%. Has anyone ever heard this before????
