How about that mega millions
Well...the annuity jackpot was $15 mil with cash value at $10 mil
They played knowing it wasn't that high.
Hopefully they won't refuse the check since it wasn't high enough!

Can a lottery Cash Value be more than the Annuity Certain?
If someone wins 300 million or so, why squabble over a few thousand one way or another. Take the money and run! At least the government has no control over it after you pay the taxes on the lump sum. And incidentally, what will the tax rate be in 10 or 20 years? That's right, no one knows.
Also...Currently there's talk in DC where the feds would confiscate pensions to cover the debt and re-pay retirees over time with something similar to social security payments. LOL! If they did that, what

Lucky for Life
if you hit the second place jackpot prize, you might get a little more than that. I been following other 2nd prize jackpot winners in other states and that 390,000 gets taxed down to about a one time lump sum payout of 271, 500 ( after the state and federal taxes are taken out. )
If you take the annuities, $ 25,000 per year every remaining year of your life, it comes about to about roughly $ 18, 700 per year. And if I'm not mistaken, you can also pass on those remaining annuity payments to yo

Do any of you personally know any lottery winners?
$5.6 million back in 1982 was probably worth $20 million in today's value. A sensible person could have made it last even in NYC but frivolous spending can wipe that amount even if it was a 20-year annuity.
In terms of knowing anyone that has won a major jackpot like MM or PB the answer is no. I do know someone who won a lottery jackpot but the payout was under $100k, she is still working and a portion of the proceeds went towards paying off all her debt and putting a down payment on a t

$311 MILLION: Here comes Powerball
I don't get why so many people get fooled because the winner/winners only get a fraction of the lottery. When my dad was alive and I mentioned to him about a previous winner with annuity he said this. How do you know about that person? He was right.
We all know three things the winner needs. Financial planner, accountant, lawyer. Then figure out game plan.
I will be watching certain members and numbers.

$311 MILLION: Here comes Powerball
I think that these sagging interest rates may push a young winner into choosing the lump sum instead of the annuity. Most twenty-year-old winners are not ready for the $211 million. I hope they get professionals on their side. The same goes for all the winners.
I will now share a Dave Ramsey quote, Some people are lighthouses when they warn of rocks ahead . These past winners who blew through their winnings are warning all of us about the rocks ahead. I hope that any Lottery Post winner wil

Indiana lottery ticket wins $540 million Mega Millions jackpot
If I did marketing for the lottery I'd probably count on people being ignorant or stupid and boast about the cash value being larger than any other single prize, while I continued to promote the almost-always-fictional annuity value. Of course even as a marketer for the lottery I'd probably know that players buy tickets in hopes actually getting some real money. With extremely few exceptions those who win significant prizes lose a significant amount to taxes, and net far less than the amounts tr

Strategy for remaining anonymous
I wish my dad was alive to see this. However he wouldn't really have a decent answer. What he would say is it depends what state the lottery winner is in.
I did agree with him on this. On this site someone mentioned about a past lottery winner and how does anyone know even if it was someone getting the annuity about what the person spends or does with it?
First thing is first you need three people. The accountant, lawyer and financial planner. Then plan accordingly.

$454 million jackpot driving Mega Million ticket sales
Welcome to the Lottery Post
and that is why I will take lump sum cash when I win.
The only good thing about taking the annuity would be if you blew through all of the money you got from the first check....you get another check the following year, for 29 years.

$363 MILLION: Red hot Mega Millions jackpot set for Friday
Excellent post Music! At my age I would not take the annuity but the thought of receiving money every year would be nice, but then so would looking at your investment statements, bank accounts etc. I honestly dont think I could spend $10,000 a day, well at least after maybe a week or two to get spending out of my system. Maybe a once a week donation for Salvation Army, a church, animal shelter, habitat for humanity, and I am sure there are plenty of causes for our veterans. Wounded Warriors was
