Mega Millions host calls wrong winning number during broadcast
Thanks for posting...appreciate it!! Read the article two times and was thinking so what if the wrong Megaball was called? Someone in NY still could have hit for a million with the five #'s, as well as the other secondary prizes. Of course the article didn't mention that and any bettors out there think I could be on to something? Look @ MM payout matrix! Seriously though, the scanners that scanned the tickets paid out the correct amount IMHO. Computer could care less if it was ca

First off, they won 148 million (US$232.5 million) NOT $148 million Second...He didn't spend 6.5 mil on the house. That is what it sold for. Third... I don't know what article you read, but nowhere in this article does it say He went broke

Skyrocketing scratch-off sales indicate lotto players are resilient
Hey noise-gate...like your determined spirit. Just read an article on cnn. It says California lottery ticket not claimed. Kind of a bait and switch, you read the article and the ticket was just sold this past Saturday. Initially thinking it was set to expire. Heck that wasn't news worthy to even put out there. Had a deposit confirmation from the Kentucky Lottery this morning. A whopping $3 on Lucky for Life played on-line...hey that's a Mega Millions with Megaplier ticket, right?

Coronavirus severely hurting Massachusetts Lottery sales
Saw an article from Jan. 12, 2016 about the PB jackpot in How Stuff works. And the article explains why PB and MM will lose money if the jackpot is won in the first few drawing after the roll-over. Ticket sales in the last two PB drawings were about $32 million and if the figure 34% of every $2 in sales goes to the jackpot that created $21.12 cash jackpot. Under the last payout structure, the estimated jackpot would be $60 million and if anyone knows how someone could purchase a $60 million payo

When will the Corona Virus hit LP?
just saying it might be a good time to change into shorts and wash the car or lay out on the roof. Sunburn, skin cancer, cataracts and whatnot aside, a bit of sun can be a good thing. And you're right that vitamin D is a good thing, within reason. If you think vitamin D or sunlight is going to prevent coronavirus or disinfect you in any meaningful way (I'm not talking about drying out some weird fungus on your nose), OTOH, maybe you've already been out in the sun too long. Probably becau

Winners across Spain celebrate results of 2019 El Gordo Christmas lottery
El Gordo doesn't just mimic a raffle, it IS a raffle. The raffle games that were introduced in the United States starting around 10 years ago were a direct attempt to bring an El Gordo-style Christmas game to the US. It was only partially successful because most states have abandoned the format. The article does mention about the prize amounts, stating both the top prize amount, as well as the payout amounts of a decimo (one-tenth of a full ticket) and even how much a 1 euro purchase would re

Telling Your Children You've Won The Lottery
I voted for 11-15 b/c I don't think it's possible to keep a secret of such magnitude from that age on up, maybe even from the next younger range. They're gonna know something is up when they see mom and dad's matching BMWs in the driveway and the new pool being dug in the backyard. In one of the threads about anonymity a person in here quoted an article about some winners not telling their children, even though they were in Britain and claimed anonymously. I wanted to know how the writer o

The California lottery, public schools and the mystery of the 'missing' money
Sure blame the lottery for everything. Thankfully the article was researched well enough to state that a big chunk of the money goes to who deserves it---the players. Seems like some residents there think the lottery would be a magic cure all bullet for all that ails their school systems. Have property taxes frozen is good for residents, but bad for schools. Not a good idea to stiff businesses either; many have/are moving to Nevada, Arizona and Texas which are much cheaper for them to operate
