Making the annuity option more attractive?
There is no way on God's green earth that I would ever, ever, ever take the annuity. Everrrrrrrr. See what's happening in Illinois? Does anybody think the state or federal government isn't able to step in and say, Sorry, this is a financial crisis. No payments until further notice . Then it's SOL. You have more options with cash.

whats the first thing u would do? or purchase? if u won a 100 million dollars or more
Same here. I also don't have children and I have noticed it makes a difference in what people say they'll do with (or invest in) their winnings or sometimes if they'll take the annuity or C/V. I've said before that if I did have kids, I'd try to make their life easier, and depending upon the amount I won, would try to give them a yearly bequest of the $14k tax exempt amt. ($28k if I were married), but would tell them that would stop when I died, that the remainder of my estate was going to

Virginia truck driver claims Mega Millions jackpot in Pa.
A professional truck driver for nearly 30 years will be retiring early thanks to a lottery ticket he purchased at a Pennsylvania travel plaza. On Wednesday, Steven Peloquin claimed a $91.8 million Mega Millions jackpot from the July 21 drawing. It is the second jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket sold by the Pennsylvania Lottery and the fourth-largest prize awarded in the Lottery's history. Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko presented a ceremonial check for $91,781,644.00 to Peloqu

Powerball changing in October to generate bigger jackpots
Well you have to hand it to the Powerball people, and their sense of unconventional marketing. First they double the price of a commodity, their ticket, while reducing its value. Then they act surprised when sales fall. In order to address the falling sales, they announce that they are going to reduce the value of the product even more. They're definitely geniuses over there. Overall, the general trend here, it it's representative, is that people are going to play less often. After five ye

winning the lottery and retirement
Patience is a virtue that not very many lottery winners have. If they did then they would still be rich. One of the debates here is Lump Sum v. 30 year annuity . Deeyar948 , where do you stand ? Factors such as age, health, size of lottery won, and more need to be seriously thought out.

Extradition trial begins this week in $16.5M Hot Lotto fraud case
The Hot Lotto people have a huge huge problem proving it's possible that Tipton rigged the drawing five or six weeks before and then actually rigged a lottery terminal to print the same numbers. Any terminal can be made to print out any combination on a ticket by simple filling out a play slip, I do it all the time since I'm a system player. What I don't understand is this being called a $16.5M Hot Lotto fraud case if $16.5M was the projected annuity pay out amount over thirty years. If

How the Lottery Changed my Life
Hope you get to feeling better; it's probably from all that splintering...or maybe lack OF - y'know, withdrawals. My fav. TLCML segment was the Motel Millionaire , Jim Gatzke - he's the one who had lost his folks a few yrs. before, was unemployed, picked up cans to cash in and as I recall, spent some of his very last money on a lottery ticket. He was living in his folk's old run-down house w/ no utilities when he won 5.5 million. The state didn't want to pay him at first, claiming he might
